I now understand what some have said about the Sovereign not liking disturbed ground. I had a hard time trying to get some targets to come up ( mostly clad this happened with) Tonight, I mainly ran along the flat areas that they smoothed out with payloader.
The two wheats are1917 & 1936 hit fine. (all the coins were a couple inches deep) No silver coins but I did find a sterling silver rifle pin. Military? I also found this neat bell (still rings too) with a crack in it. I also found 38 cents in clad.

Thanks for looking - Jim

silver is great , but I really expeted silver coins , say what are the big piles of dirt in the background ? hope you can hit it again , find that sweet spot

boy conneticut is beutifull , is that a mountian in the back

Its military, a rifle marksmanship badge given to soldiers in basic training after completing their rifle course to wear on their class A's (at least in the Army, 4 years ago). I can't remember much about it, from what I do remember though, theres 3 badges for your qualification with a rifle, expert sharpshooter and another I cant remember, might just be that you qualified. The one you found is not the expert badge, its either the sharpshooter one, or the lower one. Hopefully I helped a bit on identifying it.

Nice saves! Another couple days and they would have been lost forever.

It looks like they may have already stripped the topsoil off that area . If they're screening it on site look for the pile of debris, those can be an absolute goldmine :).

Jim,good site and finds. The photo looks like the site is loose sand, maybe a water scoop would work well?HH Ron

it is a small mountain you see and you are not missing much by not being here lol VERY high in taxes. Some parts of Connecticut are beautiful just not in the area where I live as I am in a small city.

Thanks ZOFCHAK for the tip! I will have to look into that. It is going to rain heavy today (Friday, 7-29-11) So if the weather clears up, I am going to be over there this weekend. Yes, they stripped off about 6 inches of top soil and making piles. (the ones you see in the pic)

That's good news as the rain will compact the ground a bit - targets should come through much deeper........

Looks a good site..

Well it was dark and grey and misted out but the heavy rain never showed up. I have found more goodies from the spot. I will probably post Sunday Evening as the work is still in progress.

Hi Ron,
It is a very sandy / dry dirt environment. Even though most has all been dug up, some areas are really compacted (due to the heavy machinery running over it) which makes one have to get down and dig.(me :) ) However there are some loose sandy areas making it a quick couple seconds in coin recovery. I kind of wish I had a water scoop for these areas. It won't be long before this place is refurbished with sod and ballfields. I am hitting pretty hard this weekend and as I mentioned to beachbat, I will be posting the finds later on this weekend. (probably Sunday evening) HH - Jim
