Back to the "Mega Coin Spill"

Howdy--

We have had a bit rain in the last few days which is a real treat considering that we have had a drought in this part of west Texas for the last 3 years. I thought that this might be a good time to go back to that "Mega Coin Spill" site. I gave my buddy Kenneth a call and he was thumbs-up for the idea.

Since there was quite a bit of trash at this site, mostly rusty bottle caps and nails with a smattering of can-slaw, I selected my 4X6 Shooter coil. I'm glad that I did. My first signal turned out to be a 1940-S merc. There were 2 rusty nails in the hole. I ended up with a total of 3 silver coins 2 nickles and 8 wheat-cents. Kenneth got 4 silver Roosevelt's and a few wheat-cents. My total silver count from this small lot is 33. And I didn't think that this lot looked like it was worth hunting! You just never know. Best of luck and ...

Man, 33 silver's out of one spot, what a haul!

Triplehooked, nearly 200 coins were in one expanding hole. Twenty eight of them were silver. The majority were wheat cents and nickles. The other five silver finds were "stragglers". My hunting buddy, Kenneth, also dug 18 silver coins at that lot plus quite a few wheat-cents. In nearly 30 years of detecting, it has to be the most productive, numerically, lots that I have ever swung my coil over. I have no doubt that there are still a few goodies there left to dig. Best of luck and...
