Back to the Farmhouse!

Went back to the the circa 1840's farmhouse and did a little better this time. Found my first silver coin with the 705, a 1916 Merc along with two zincolns. Also, found a rifle cartridge and a rifle bullet (unfired) along with a big padlock, some other odds and ends of scrap metal. Would like to know what the small spark plug shaped thing is (a spark plug?), it had 150-170 D18 on the side. Also, a think the small piece of metal with holes is a boot tap(don't know the correct term?), but correct me I am wrong. Found a lot of foil, old iron, etc. I was hunting mainly in the coin program, because there is so much metal, I would be digging almost every square foot and I was hunting for mainly silver or coins.

Nice hunt Andy. Is there a "D" for a mint mark on that Merc?

No, W wasn't a mint mark. Too bad buddy, the '16D is one of those ones that EVERY American detectorist that hunts coins would love to find!
Still, looks like you had a great time.

Looks like a good hunt to me Andy! :beers:
Congrats on the key date Merc! That spark plug looking thing looks to me like a coolant temperature sensor (perhaps from a tractor). The lock looks like a RR lock, but could just be a similar style.
And the piece with all the holes is from a shoe/boot, but not a tap. It's a form the maker sandwiched to shape the heel cup.

Finally got you a silver mercury. Congratulations. I like the toe plate also. I have found a few of those.
