back to the Drive-In....and a Sunray question

Spent around 45 minutes back at an old worked-over Drive-In Theater site that is being prepped for a new residential development. Last year I posted on this site to the effect that 4 of us spent 3-4 hours there and all we came away with was one Mercury dime (in not very good shape) - tons of rusty bottle caps, beavertails and iron junk.

Well, someone had been in there recently pulling out old shrubbery and what-not, and I noticed some areas that had been scraped clean. So I thought I'd revisit the site for a little while, just for kicks. In an area measuring no larger than 6' x 6' I pulled out 2 clad quarters, 4 pennies and a 1950 Canadian dime (silveR) in very good shape. So...I'm thinking that it might be a worthwhile site again once they start excavating. Boy, it's tough to dig in that ground! Hard clay mixed with basalt gravel...dry and hard. But, the C$ was able to sniff the coins out from around the garbage.

Anyone know whether Sunray is considering a probe for the C$? I've been thinking about picking up the one they introduced for the CZ line (for my CZ7a-Pro), but I seem to be spending all my time with the C$.

Thanks,

c.

You may wanna ask again in the SunRay forum that's linked here @ findmall. I know that the ID-Excel being the newer, hotter design :hot: is due to be first up to bat.....there's a prototype probe for it out there already in the field somewhere :twodetecting:
Speaking of Drive-In's. Does anyone know if these lots were dirt, say in the 50's/60's? The reason I ask, is there's still a vacant drive-in I know that sits with some old cracked up tar on it. I imagine this was put down in later years over the original dirt. Here's why; my dad & I went in when some of the tar was broken up in spots & old silver coins were everywhere! :surprised: If that tar ever gut torn out it would be an Unbelieveable field day........ :yikes: I'd like to go in with a sledgehammer when no ones lookin' but I'd probably get chased off :chase:

...on the relative merits of the more expensive Uniprobe (headphone model) by DetectorPro, versus the SunRay detector-mounted probes? Wondering if you've had experience with both, what your thoughts might be. Do they perform with equal accuracy, depth, etc.?

But having never tried a uniprobe I can't really comment at this time...sorry wish I could.
:sorry:

I had the Uni-probe when it first came out but I wound up with a pocket probe because of the weight difference. I use the pocket probe with all my detectors that don't have tone ID and use the Sunrays with all my detectors that have tone ID if, when, AND AS they are available. :) In other words, I too am waiting patiently for the Excel and Coinstrike models. The DP and Sunrays are both "best of breed" with their respective performance and costs.
