Back to the CZ 70 Pro

The first detector I used on my return to detecting was the CZ 7a Pro. That first year I found 30 quality rings. I then bought and sold over twenty detectors of various brands over the next five years. My production of coins and jewelry dropped dramatically. I picked up a CZ 70 pro and started using it and in the past four months have found seven quality rings, one .80 carrat solitair in the group. The grass is always greener on the other side but in detectors the CZ series has got to be the finest all around detector ever built. Nickles and rings are never missed with the CZ. Now if Fisher would minaturize this great unit!!

I applaud your decision to go back to what works for you. I also love my CZ-70 and would never get rid of it. And I've been very successful with it, both on the beach and on the land. I'm curious to know though if the Sovereign Elite or the Excalibur were among the machines you tried. I got a Sovereign Elite as a backup to my CZ and after using it on the beach I now hunt the beach with Minelab, though I know the CZ will make a good backup if I need it.

Nothing wrong with your decision as indeed an excellent choice..At 3 1/2 lbs certainly no heavyweight as you feel it is...Might try hipmounting to lessen the load...

so why screw with a good thing that's proven time & time again. Just like the CZ5, that machine was a real winner as well, but then discontinued it for the CZ3d. I'm not knocking the 3d, but I think they could have kept both.So, sometimes change isn't a good thing.

I used the Sovereign for a while as well as the Explorer. I never got use to the slow swing speed they require. My brother is a dyed in the wool Sovereign Beach hunter and we love to compete when I visit him on the beaches of North Carolina. Funny thing is I always find more jewelry than he but he does dig fewer pennies than I. I know we all use what works for us but I honestly think the CZ is the king of the beach.

Probably a toss up...as both work well at least on E. Coast saltwater beaches...

I agrree on the Explorer needing a slower sweep but to me the Sovereign is as fast or faster than the CZ on the beach. REason being that the Sovereign is a threshold machine (with a lot faster recovery than the Explorer) and if you miss a target by an inch with the CZ you'll miss it but if you miss it by an inch with the Sovereign you will very likely get a break in the threshold and that will cause you to back up and check that near-miss target out. But the CZ is certainly no slouch on the beach...one of the best, for sure.

Mike, In autotune the CZ is a threshold machine. On the beach with my CZ I hunt in autotune which gives a constant threshhold hum. Autotune will give a variance in threshhold hum on deepies or a near missed target before disc mode would give a signal. I hunt in autotune and wait for a whisper then go to disc to ID.

Joe, I wondered if anybody was going to mention that. I actually discovered that when using my CZ on the beach after having used my Sovereign Elite for some time. And I found it to be very effective. I don't think too many people use the CZ that way, though for the beach they should try it.

I guess I am just a better detectorist than my brother!! I always beat him with my CZ and he with the Sovereign. Seriously they are both great beach machines..but love the simplicity and rugged reliablility of the CZ 70 PRO.
