Back to the Big Hill

Back to the Big Hill with my friend Tony today...I think our first targets came simultaneously, I called him on my cell and told him I found a 1927 Buffalo Nickel, and he told me he just found a 1943 war nickel. I thought that was kinda weird...lol...I found 3 Silver dimes...1926 and 1927 Mercs in the same hole, and then a 1910 King George Canadian Dime. I also found 3 wheats and a Buffalo nickel...Tony found just the war nickel, some clad, and a gold plated pendant.
Some folks ask me how much trash I dig in a hunt...Well the last pic tells the story...It's all PB&J...lol

HH,

Very nice finds. Sounds like a fun hunt! Thanks for the pictures.

Very nice finds!

Not much trash at all! My pouch is always full I chase a ton of deep iffy stuff all the time.....you never know till u dig it, great finds,

very fine finds you have there. i don't dig lots of trash either unless there isn't many good targets to be found then i chase the iffy ones and get more trash and very little treasure.

You had a good day up on the big hill!
Been a while since i found 3 silvers in one day.

I dig most iffy targets if deep enough and/or passes the 'smell test'. And yes i clear the area of a lot of iffy silver spoofing corroded nails in the process.
The pounded-out public parks out here require pushing the envelope to the extreme.

Off the top of my head, i'd say my average track record is 1 out of maybe 3 or 4 'iffy's' that turn out to be keepers. Keeping in mind i typically don't dig IDs in the pull tab area, just too dang many of them in the parks here. Extremely corroded deep iron is my main nemises as most old historic parks here have a ton of iron buried in them.
Rule of thumb, an old park with a history and with a lot of iron = old keepers dropped back in the day.

If i don't dig them somewhat reasonable gut feeling iffy's, someone else will.
IMO, successful metal detecting involves digging! A lot of digging! Some digs you win and some digs you lose. But sooner or later the law of averages will be in your favor.

Digging only guaranteed solid coin IDs in historic pounded-out areas will leave a lot of oldies for others to dig and recover.
