Back to the beach this afternoon.

Got down to the beach this after noon around 330 for the 5:07 low tide. There were Va Beach Surf Pirates all over the place today and the beach was packed. I saw a lot of silver rings today from some of the other pirates but I did not get any my self.I did manage to get a couple nice pictures. Here is a spin down the lane.

Scurvy bunch of sea dogs, fer sure. Arrrgh.
(BTW, ya'll really do look like all the cartoons you see of detectorists at the beach. We gotta work on the fashon angle)

If you wear sandals the socks will prevent chafing from the sand that gets trapped between the straps and your feet. It works well on a long hunt especially if you are working the lane but also good in the mine.

Exactly right. I went through a lot of footwear/no footwear attempts until I found the combination of socks and sandals. My feet would get abraded, irritated and burned by walking in the washing sand over the course of several hours. When I started beach detecting last summer, I spent the week at at Va Beach during the astronomical low tide detecting every low tide day and night for up to 5 hours at a time. (My week of vacation ended up being more work than my job) The socks on my feet were very comfortable in the water and kept my feet from getting irritated, burned, and sore during that whole week. I still find that combination works best for me, even if it does look strange.

Looks weird but works great. They are so tightly knit that even the finest sand can't get through though it still can enter over the top but not enough to cause any problem.

Sorry about the wise crack on the socks upthread. I didn't realize the detecting significance.

When I lived in Key West years ago, it was common among the locals to pick on the tourists over the socks they always wore. Here we were, tropical paradise and all that, and along comes some yokel with his white whale-flesh, bad fitting bermuda shorts and dark socks under his sandals! Again, my bad and apologies.

I guess with a pair of "hip" water sandals and some of those socks you would look relatively with it down at the lane.

Thats funny you should say that...My Feet have been burned more than once with Teevas(sandals) on and man did they hurt...of course the part that wasn't exposed was the image of the sandal...which looks funny...I remember wearing dive booties with sandals, yes looked funny but did the trick....so that being cleared up...I just thought you was in such a hurry to detect...you forgot to take your socks off!....LOL...Good luck Wes!
