Got back to the beach and was getting lots of stuff that was missed, I hunted in disq mode, and was able to get a very small ering and somthing els with small stones in it , and no shortage of fishing lead and lures the small lead makes a high tone and I was amazed at the depth i was able to find such small lead > One was at least 5" deep very enjoyable untill I had a panick attack and I had to go home , they are very frighting and when i get run down I get panick attacks had two today I must be getting a cold or somthing then i dig to much and i get jitery , lots of cladd but no gold but a passer by told me whear he threw his gold wedding band, when he got divorced , I told him i will look for it as i was heading in that part of the beach and would return it it is enscribed inside CHADD & KATHREEN so i know if i find it its his . I have heard so many stories of divorce and they throw the ring away in the water this is no joke it happens lots and with a 50% devorce rate that leavs lots of rings I see the day of the wedding vow , and the ring being placed on the finger thru sickness and health for bettor or for worst for rich or poor until death du us part WHAT HAPP-END did the flower of youth turn into a a big and ugly gord, was thear money problems , drinking problems, was thear another ? I remember the words thru thick or thin we will never break up , and then i see the ring taken off the finger and thrown away the marige sunk over , Ohh how the crown has fallen from our head , the fires of testing found only dross, and thear the ring lay lost , forsaken , abandoned, the bane of the detectorist . I end my Oricle,

Dr. Gunnar,

Nice haul of goodies. I remember this summer when I was at the lake finding lead sinkers myself.... they do give a nice tone and warrant a dig. Those color pulltabs you found are most likely off the high caffeinated energy drinks. (Such as Monster energy) You have made a fine contribution to the environment by removing lead, fishing hooks & pulltabs. Thanks for sharing - Jim

Hi Gunnar,

Lots a diggin there Friend!!

You are recovering all sorts of targets.

How deep is the water where you are hunting?

Regards,

CJ

sorry to hear about the panic attacks, you will have to steady down and take stock of your emotions. I have found that I get jittery and start to go a bit queer these days if I get run down or stressed. Then before I know it I've got a cold or similar. Just getting over the flu at the moment, first for 3 years so I can't complain.

I have found a little beach here that is absolutely littered with sinkers, I have pulled out and 1/2 filled a 1 liter ice-cream container. I started to clean all the sand out of the holes so I could give them to my grandson but suddenly realized that I was getting a lot of lead residue into my hands and fingers. It took a lot of effort to remove the discoloration from my skin. Many washes over a couple of days. I don't know if lead in that state is injurious to health, but to be safe I have left them alone. I think it may be safer to melt them and recast, rather than risk getting the rotting stuff into my skin.

I have not seen the highly colored pull-tabs here in Tasmania, bet I will soon though. Australians are quick to copy bad habits. Those tabs have to be purposely broken off cans here and it takes a little effort to do so, but most sites I detect are littered with them.

Just bought a Garrett Po-pointer. Tried it in the yard and found a few coins and other bits and pieces. Really helps to narrow down the digging area. It was much cheaper to import to Tasmania from the U.S. than to buy here. My wife has wrapped it up in Christmas Paper, so I won't see it for a few months.

Cheers for now

Pete

I get out from shoreline to waist deep , and pete ya its best not to handle the lead , potters used to make glazes from it and never knew what was making them sick , but lead is worth money and the tabs you have to dig them they can sound just like a gold ring and a dime but the dime should have a cleaner sound , On one target i guessed it as a tab and it turned out to be a dime, i think the Iron in the ground augmented the signal but thin foils du make a lower sound keep at that small beach and clean it up and it will get easy , Now can you Imagine if somone did lose a ring and rented a detector and stated detecting it , they would get discouraged by all the tabs and quit, so digging the tabs may pay off and the pinponter really does seed things up

Hi Birdseed,

I feel the best thing to do with lead is to melt & recast like you mention or if you know of someone that makes there own bullets I am sure they would be happy to take the lead. The less contact with lead the better. As far as the colored pulltabs, the young people like to break off the tabs and make necklaces or pulltab bands around the wrist. Some just like to pull them off and fling em' lol. Then we get to find them :( HH - Jim

Nice finds Gunnar,

Finding that lead shows you have a good spot, lead is a high density metal and your % chance of finding gold if you are finding lead is considerably higher.

I would imagine you are enjoying sand hunting...... quite a bit easier to dig!!!

Good luck
