Hi, I am new here and need advice.....I had an old nautilus yrs. ago that got wasted by hurricane hugo.. I need info. on best models etc. for mainly beach use but still versatile . My wife is inetersted also so models best for her too.. any tips, tricks, etc. will be greatly appreciated.. Help!! Help!! I'm GREEN

if your gonna just do the beach wet/dry sand a MINELAB EXP/EXP II or a WHITES DFX.if you plan on getting really close to water or wading you want a water proof detector.A WHITES BEACH HUNTER ID. or a WHITES PI PRO, or THE MINELAB EXCAL 1000. The WHITES are better priced and will serve you well. the MINELABS are also great detectors.I'm sure you'll hear a million and one ideas on what to use.I have used these or hunt with guys who do all the time.All of them will find the good stuff well!!I use a BEACH HUNTER ID and a WHITES PI UNIT I'm on gold ring #7 and have found loads of silver and coins this year so far.I live in MASS so no ones on the beach this time of year but I'm still getting loot!!good luck!!
 
both are good detectors and you could switch with the wife every now and then for different types of hunting. You can go over one area with one detector, then go over the same area with the other. Or...one can follow the other to see what the other missed.

I plan to be oll over beach so i think waterproof will be smarter. We have had a lot of hurricanes on our beach Oak Island N. C. so there is probably loads of trash. There is also Fort Caswell on the mouth of the cape fear river so i will be there also.. Are both of these easy to get used to ? since i am an ar-ma-ture... thanks

Peg Leg Red,I live just across from you in Wilmington.I use a Fisher CZ-20.If you want an easy,waterproof,midrange priced detector that will do you a great job,go with a Fisher 1280x.They also have a lifetime warranty.
 
Hermit ,, where have you hunted around n.c. beaches ? Will they let you hunt at any of the forts.? Probably on beach i bet. but not on grounds.. Thanks for info on Fisher detectors. Knowing me i will get it wet. so am going waterproof . Have you wporked southport any.? any time you plan to come across the river give me a call, I am at beach about every other weekend. I have hunted alot of the beaches in this area.As far as the forts go,they are off limits,even the beaches.Fisher and Caswell are Fed ran and way off limits.They will lock you up!Oakisland,Holden,Wrightsville.Carolina,Topsail,Surfcity beaches are all OK to hunt on.I'll try to get up with you some week end that you are there and I'm not working.I'd be glad to share what I have learned messing around the beaches.I know a couple tid bits about your area that may be of intrest as well.I get up with you soon.Hermit
 
Hermit, I can't find the fisher cz20 model. I think its out of production. Price looks pretty good on the 1280x though. Have you used any of the Whites ? pi pro or , beach hunter id they were also recommended also.. Are most models about the same to get used to? You can tell i'm green.... peg leg red
 
The CZ20 is out of production but they can still be had.Check this board,Fisherforum,orFisherCZforum,or Ebay.This is not a mid priced detector.It's pricey,used runs 500/700 bucks,New 850/1100 bucks.The 1280x is a midpriced detector as the Whites PI or beachhunter ID.Right now on ebay is an older Whites surfmaster2 with a bluemax coil for 235.00 buy it now that would be a great starter machine.
The WhitesPI is a great water machine,It has no discrimination,which may not be best for a starter.The beachhunter ID would probably better suit you.Good luck! It is good to go!Arm cuff,bent shaft,standard controls.If it is too heavy,it could be belt mounted easy enough.It'll be a fine machine for what we talked about.Go for it!
 
Yeah I know,, It was well worth original price and I knew it.. Trying to be too slick cost me a good machine.. oh well! there's more out there.. I just responded to Mr. Bill on the forum you told me about.Does he have other machines besides Fisher's ? There is a machine like yours on ebay now but its actve bidding.. 1 day and hrs to go.. am watching this also.. thanks for your help, and GOOD HUNTING Peg leg red
 
Peg leg red,There will be plenty of deals pop up.A detector like mine is in high demand and bringing top dollar.If you want to go that far with it,maybe you should pick up one new for the warranty.Another company I forgot to mention is Tesoro,they have a couple that would work for you also.You could get one of those new for the cost of mine used.They are getting pretty good reviews and have a lifetime warranty and hold their value pretty well if you want to get out of it or upgrade later.Talk to you later. hermit ... just watched cz20 go for 731.00 used ... what do you want for yours???? It has sand deposits , scratches ,dirt, corrousion , sunset sun exposure, bald head snooty flu,, etc... Should be about $ 47.50 you don't even have to put it up for auction...EH??? peg leg red
 
Well lets see.It has a proven track record.The scratches are beauty marks.it's fully mature.Never sez no.Loves long walks on the beach.Whispers sweet nothings in my ear.Eats very little.Does not take up much room.Does not complain about riding in the back of the truck.Will go swimming nude.Does not care if I come home or not.Does not care if I drink or hang out with friends.All in All,shes perfect.
I'll trade her even up for the beach house! Hermit
