Back to basics hunt, with a pleasant surprise.

G'day all.
Got out with the Ace for a couple of hours today. I decided to hunt with only the stock coil and screw driver today. I left all other devises at home. I didn't even take a finds bag or head phones with me. This was the third time in the last week that I've done this and found it quite liberating. I only wish that the Ace had a volume control on it, so that I could do this more often without the sound of the detector annoying those that might be nearby.
Leaving the pocket probe home meant that I needed to be a bit more attentive to pinpointing, but given the Aces ability to accurately pinpoint, this is not a problem. I also found that listening more closely to the pinpoint sounds, the Ace is able to talk to you about the target. I found that to be both fun and educational. Just doing simple things like this really helps you to become a better operator of the Ace. I also picked up on a couple of other sounds that I hadn't noticed too much before as well. Who knows. In a couple of hundred more hours of use, I might even become an expert at using this machine.
I had a bit of trouble pinpointing one target, which I thought to be a $2 coin, and after coming at it from several different angles, I was finally able to properly pinpoint it. It was a $2 coin. The problem was, that there was 2 other $2 coins within 12 inches of it. I like problems like that.
The hunt was toped off by a beautiful sunset. What a great hobby this is.
The tally at the end of the hunt was $11.36, with a 2 to 1 ratio of coins to trash, coins being the most prevalent targets. I don't know if it's a case of getting better with the Ace or just dumb luck.
Mick Evans.
P.S. I almost forgot to mention. I also experimented with the sweep speed of the Ace. Normally, I work on a 2 second sweep speed, but after reading a comment by either Big Cat Daddy, or Uncle Willy about a week ago about the Aces ability to still be able to hit a target at any sweep speed, I decided to play around with it. Previously I had experimented with it, and found that I lost all targets if I swung the detector at a one and a half second sweep or faster. Not so today. I was quite surprised. Perhaps when I had carried out this experiment before, there may have been iron in the ground causing masking at that sweep speed. What has been your experiences with sweep speed?
It looks like some more experimentation is in order. Mind you, I wouldn't recommend doing this on ground that has a lot of junk in it.

sounds like an awesome hunt Mick...never been close to that much coin...but it will come..Gary
