Back pack dredge- How good?

Nothing but fines here in Iowa and not a lot at that. I do enjoy getting out and working it. Just wondering how proficient the 2" could be. Thanks

I have a 2" back pack dredge, I use it when the water gets to low for my 3". The Keens 2" Back Pack is a nice little dredge for fine gold. I get the same gold as you as I dredge in OHIO most of the time. For the fine gold we get, keep the dredge almost level with the water and don't run it to fast. You have to let that fine gold drop or you will blow it out. I love my little dredge for getting into places that you can't take a big one. I like the Proline a little better, but use what you can get. I got a good deal on mine. If you look around you can find them used, make sure the hose is in good condition, you don't want to buy them right off. Good Luck flintstone

Do you guys use suction nozzels or power jets. I have a 2 I built many years a go to dredge for ultra fine gold in the Chattahoochee river in Georgia. I was working way south of the gold fields of north Georgia on the river at a place called West Point Georgia / Lanett. Alabama In front of a large power dam. In order to catch the ultra fine gold that far south I put 3 feet of hose between the header box and the power jet to help settle the fine gold and ran at low speed and it worked well. At that time I was living in Panama City Florida. North Georgia was to far to drive for a few hours of fun on Saturday.

I have both for mine, but use the nozzle most of the time. If the place is a little hard to get to I use the jet, less hoses to carry. I am thinking about adding about 2more foot of sluice to mine and run it faster to move more dirt. I have a Honda 2.5 HP. on mine and only run only about 2/3 power. With extra sluice I can open it up. I have about 20' of hose on mine and it still dose a fine job.
