I just received my Minelab 8" coil and couldnot take it I went out in the frozen covered snow and in the same trash area I have been hunting in with the stock 10 1/2" coil the 8" is really 7 1/2" and man I see what everyone means buy easy to pinpoint and pick out the junk easier.I am not going to lie about this now so do believe me.I found a penny and it was the only target I guess I missed with the big coil and it was under 4" of snow and 3" or dirt and what was amazing is I had the sensitivity set at 3 I guess this is good.I can't say what everything else is set at because I read the books and came up with my own setup and could tell you all if you wanted to know but I don't know if snow is hard to shoot thru or not.
I was amazed anyways.Well I guess this 7 1/2" coil is doing its job.Please nomore snow,I need togo detecting...lol...

I am looking at the sunray 12 1/2" coil is this over kill I have the stock 10 1/2" and the minelab 7 1/2" what would be my gains here besides deepth do I need one or am I set.I am about to order the Killer B head phones and the detector stand from sunray for the XS I think that is a must.I doen't want to get anything I don't need.I am coin shooting and jewlery hunting (but of course) and frsh water beach hunting,don't know about the beach (ocean) as of yet.maybe some relic hunting later on.since I just got this I don't want to over due it just would like some input on this coil.Thanks

Rick;
I've had the x-12 stealth for the exporer for several months now and love it.
It is lighter and better balanced than the stock coil. The response is clear and crisp. The center web is narrower so that pinpointing is more accurate.
Worked a local school yard last weekend and cleaned up.
My brother-in law hunted with his XLT and I was able to find more coins plus finding a ring.
Am looking forward to getting it on the beach in the spring.

looks like you cleaned up good....would you say the stock coil is as deep but just heavier and harder to pin point,I have been told by more then one person that they go the same depth but the 12 is lighter and easier to pin point ...I know the next thing I am to get is the probe from sunray for this XS...then I think I am done spending money on the Big E...

Rick;
haven't done a side by side depth comparison
but the x-12 picked up that ring at 10-12 inches with a good solid signal.
The x-1 probe is very worthwhile addition
it will save you mucho time and aggrivation when you can't find something in the hole
Is it in the side or deeper down ? x-1 will tell you. also great on the beach when you get a signal at the max of the depth meter and you have dug 18" down and found nothing, check the bottom and if you get nothing with the x-1 then odds are it is a crushed can at 3'
