GDM,

If you're using a splitter between you're cable input and you're modem, make sue it is one designed for Internet use. I just replaced mine due to intermittent problems with one from Radio Shack. It is more expensive than the standard one (about $10) but since installing it two months ago, I have had no problems. Just my $0.02. Hope it helps.

Sounds like to me you had a bad splitter. The power level isn't a problem unless it's over 55. Anything 55 or below is fine. Mine was 50 for a long time and it was fine. Then we lost one of the TV's in the spare bedroom and thus one of the splitters and it went to 48, where it is now. And it's fine. I think you just had a bad splitter.
