Back-light on the xlt

Is there a way to replace the back-light on my old xlt without sending it in for repair?
I have checked the program in the Md and know for sure it is turned on and set to a bright setting.
When the time changes it will get dark much earlier and it would be nice to have the back-light.
 
Not sure. I Have the same problem with my eagle spectrum. If you find out, let me know .
