After a Hiatus of almost 28 year I have gotten back into the hobby,, back in the day I found a lot of silver with my old Compass, and rolls of wheaties,, now using a borrowed for the time XLT i;m finding tons of clad,, a few rings,, and only one piece of silver, the depths i;m finding clad is amazing,, convincing me also of the freeze thaw cycle pushing them a little deeper,, in a little over 3 weeks of (hunting), my totals have been 76 quarters,, 147 dimes,, about 60 nickles and well over 500 pennies,, and only 4 wheat's in the bunch,, granted I;m hitting places that have seen a lot of action in the past,, but you would think a wheat would show up once in a while,, anyway,, nice to meet you guys and girls,, I;m about 30 miles south of Pittsburgh,,

Welcome back coinhog.I miss those old days, too. If you were the first one in a town or area to own a detector,it was "Treasure Time".Now it is hard to find a place that hasn't been hunted to death. With research though, you can come up with a never detected spot now and then. What amazes me is how many quarters people lose now days.Enjoy.

You have a lot of old history in your area and a lot of old sites you can MD. You also have a lot of old homes in your area, MD them. Check out old one room school site. I live 60 miles south from you and can't MD all the places that is out there. So far this year I have found 114 wheat's, 4 Indian Heads, 3 war nickel and lots of silver.

Seems nowadays no one cares if they drop a quarter,, back in the day if i dropped a quarter I spent a good long time looking for it,, even at teh toll booth I go through daily,, the amount of money thats just droped and left there is amazing,, I guess its easier for a person to just grab another quarter from there change and toss it into the mouth of that toll collector,, now me,, if I drive up and see a few quarters laying there,, I consider it found money and it goes into my pocket,, :)

Hay Coindog,

I was out of MDing for 24 years and just got back into it 9 months ago.

I learned to find jewelry on this forum. I find lots of it now. Never thought

I could find gold jewelry. But, you never know, now do you???????????

Happy Hunting,

My biggest duh moment was when I was detecting in the yard of the hose we used to live in,, everytime I went over this certain spot I got a hit that pegged the needle on my old Compass,, my wife came out and wated to try it out,, so I let her go through the yard,, she hit that same spot and agin the machine screamed,, I told her Hon it has to be some kind of can or something,, she insisted I dig it up,, well low and behold,, without thinking I ran the knife across a really nice Morgan Dollar,, I;ll have to find that pic I have of her holding that thing up in the yard,,

Welcome back coinhog:
I too just came back three summers ago. I also had a Compass. I had the x100. Had a couple of Garrett's before that and one Tesoro. I am now using the XLT and the Tesoro DeLeon. Enjoying the heck out of detecting now that I am retired. I have found a small hand full of wheaties and some silver coins. Your doing real good with all those coins already. I have 439 coins this summer. I would like to get 2000 coins this summer. I ran across some old note books I had in the early 80's and it just was amazing to me that I had 3 and 4000 coins in a summer. I didn't think I was ever sober that long when I was young? Again welcome back...Z

I suppose theres a lot of people out there detecting in my area,, but I have only ran across one,,lately I have been hitting the tot lots,, finding quite a bit of change,, Mokey bars were teh best invention known to man,, :detecting:

I just started detecting the tot lots and find a lot of coins. I am usually on the beaches. I have a number of beaches that are close to me on Lake Michigan that I hit all summer. My knees are not up to getting up and down anymore but I have been really thinking about pushing myself to see if I can do some digging in the ground again. I tried a few days ago and I got down just fine but boy what a time to get back up and that was one time and one time only. I am building my knees up and will try in a month or so again. Z

Welcome back to the hobby! I have only been in it for 9 months. I like to find the old silver myself. It is hard to find now days. All that I have found has come from private yards. I also like hitting tot lots and local schools.

Good luck to you. Seems you are doing quite well with it, Beale.

got out for about a hour last night,,, went to a ballfield no longer in use,, used to be a swamp when i was a kid,, they brought a bunch of fill in from the steel mill and my goodness teh scrap they brought in with it,, anyway,, it made for horrible hunting, managed to get 3 quarters and a nickle,, still have problems with nickles,, just cant pinpoint them

Welcome back and enjoy the exercise!! 3 to 4000 coins a summer is great. You can do it again. It just might take you longer!!
