Back in the race mode again at the Motocross Track.

We started last night before the meeting to take the track out of the winter mode a few weeks early. Our first race weekend is April 10 & 11 so we need to get busy. We are making new jumps, turns straightaways etc. We will hold off on the sprinkler system until the last week.... Even at the track, we see less riders signing up. Economy seems to have hit them also.... A couple of the gun club guys are saying their membership this year is about half.... Choices, choices, food or fun.... At the motocross track, its less members, more work for those left... Suck is life right.... We have not seen the track in this good of shape after winter in a long time.... Quite we get winter break up of ice up stream and it comes thru our track as the river gets block up and we loose a lot of dirt, silt, whatever....This year, looks pretty much like we closed it up in the fall....

Start gate is washed and cleaned and ready to drop....

to get back into riding, possibly a Yamaha 250 Virago entry cruiser, don't want to spend much because just a summer toy, have an enquiry also on a Honda cbr 125 heard they are a compact unit for around town. I don't want too spend a lot because if like riding again will trade up, good luck with your track season ... oj

And I've gotta believe it's a lot of work. But we all have to keep ourselves occupied and there's no better way to do that than to partake in something that we truly enjoy. Hope the sign-ups increase for you guys. Tough economic times for many though, as you said. It sure will be nice to see the day arrive when this economy turns the corner. I liked the world better when it wasn't as big. :)

sales are way down and that prices are coming down a little. He said club events are drawing less riders this year. The only thing that I can think that could be causing this is the bad economy. I see nothing that indicates that things are going to get better, if anything, it could get much worst with the wrecking crew we have in Washington. Kelley (Texas)

Alice and I are the phone committee so we see the difference from year to year.

Perhaps it is the more lax hunting regs up here [we are pretty free in the regulations and enforcement thereof], but more people are taking up hunting. It may also be the fact that venison is 'free' [absent the license and tag], better for you and has better taste. I would think that MORE people would take up fishing and hunting.

Connecticut, its pretty crowded. Most of the white tails are on private land. So you need land owner written consent to get at them. You can get in on the lottery system on state forest land. Again white tails and a lot of that if with a Bow. Smaller tracks of land so they tend to frown on large caliber rifles... The rest of our hunting is small game, squerrils, rabbits, Upland is usually birds like pheasants, partridge, ducks of all sorts. Varmints are usually woodchucks and coyotes.... Seasons are pretty limited and when open a lot of company unless on private land. Lot of anti gun people in CT also. Tree hugger heaven here....

Fishing here in fresh water for trout is decent up this way but along the shoreline its pretty much put in the stocked trout and they fish them out pretty fast. A few hold overs but not many. Up here, the brooks run thru private land and they are still decent and not fished that hard. Even there they stock areas that the public has access to. Bass seem to do well on their own, but they stock some, pike, walleye and the like...

Gun clubs around here, the better ones, are pretty pricey... and most have a waiting list to get in or did until now. One right down the street from me called Fin Fur and Feather and they have a 2 year waiting list or did. Not sure now. I like it for breakfast on the weekends or shooting skeet or trap...

what it takes to run the club. The rest we gave away to needy organizations.... Its a lot of work for sure but all of us in it enjoy the hobby and usually past it on to our kids who we hope take over from us. Lately that don't always seem to be the case. Work ethics in todays youth seems a little lacking. Not all, but many. There not afraid of work, they will stand right next to you and watch you do it all...

I post a lot of pictures once we start racing... Its a mile track that tortures the bike and riders. big jumps, fast straight aways always followed by more jumps. Fact, no matter what your doing your setting flat out setting up for the next jump. One jump is 110 feet if you tripple it......Its up to the rider if he wants to make it one, two or 3 jumps into one....

Some will make this one jump for all of these when running the other way.

big jumps on the kind of junk suspension we had in the 70's meant you would crash and break your bike plus your L-4/L-5 vertebrae would be up between your ears, along with some other important equipment!:yikes:
Seems each generation has it better........or worse:biggrin:
