Back from the Sandy Shores of Lake Michigan

I'm back from a week in Grand Haven, MI and it was a busy, working vacation. The Princess and I were there to inspect our classic Chris Craft and develop a plan for her refit. 3 years our boat has been sitting on the hard in Michigan and it shows. An engine is being pulled, the paint is being stripped and some repair work to the hull has to take place. Once that is done we will rewire her and refinish the interior.
The conditions were particularly bad for water hunting with severe rip tides, you could see the plumes of sand jetting out from the beach. Going past your waist was taking your life in your hands so I decided to stay in the lane on my hunt.

I spent most of the week working on the boat and only managed one short hunt in Lake Michigan which yielded only a big, junker ring. Bummer for me but a big thrill for the Princess who loved it and it hasn't left her finger since, except for the pic.

Flying back to Bermuda we passed over the eastern shore of Lake Michigan and it was beautiful sandy beaches as far as we could see to the north and south. Beautiful but Cold.

Cool find!
Glad you made this post. I remember going to a beach on Lake Michigan when I a kid living in Indiana. The beach was not only big but packed with people to. Huh! and I was depressed:cry: because I just moved back from Florida and figured I'd missed out on detecting the beaches. You've just given me new hope.

I hope you have a machine with quick recovery from ferrous targets, Bottlebum. There were a lot of iron targets in the surf during my short hunt. I was told this was typical of these beaches, either industrial refuse or old shipwreck parts.

Good Hunting to You,

BDA:cool:

BDA, I bet you were glad to see your Paradise as you flew in. I am looking forward to some of the Beautiful pics. you always post.Glad you had a safe trip. I just got back from working on my boat, they are like needy kids, takes allot of love and attention and Money. Good Luck and show us some Gold. or Platinum . Welcome back ,and HH.

everyone starts talking about the big water on the east coast. there are only 2 things we don't have on our beaches here in michigan. salt and sharks!!!!!!!!!
glad you had a productive trip even if you didn't get to hunt much. let me know in advance if/when you come back and we'll hook up.

One other thing we don't have on the Great Lakes is "severe rip tides". I know you meant severe rip currents.
