Back from testing the GT at the beach.

Nothing earth shattering as far as some secret new settings. What I learned? Iron mask on and iron mask off are about equal in depth but Iron mask off runs quieter with less falsing. I was using sensitivity at 12:00 with iron mask off and when switching to mask on I left the sensitivity there so it might seem that it sounds a bit better but when actually hunting I can not run it that high on this beach. I usually run about 1:00 - 1:30 with the S-8 with iron mask on. With it off I can run at 12:00 with no nulling or falsing. Auto sensitivity is less deep than manual with the 12:00 setting. Sorry guys but on this particular beach disc. is deeper than pinpoint. I did a lot of other testing also that wasn't videoed. The deepest find of the day was a black thick encrusted silver dime? I'm going to say it was nearing 20 inches deep and just gave a soft two way peep. Not sure how old it is but this dock was built around the turn of the century.

Here's hoping that the dime turns out to be a barber or older. Great video and info. Thanks.

Any RF noise present at this location? If there is then Auto might go deeper than noon for manual at the right location which wouldn't adjust it down as much maybe. Next time I'm out in the woods hunting I need to compare Auto to manual and find out exactly how high Auto goes compared to it's manual setting. That should be a good indicator of exactly what the max Auto will go to in ideal circumstances (low RF noise and low minerals). I wouldn't then expect it to ever tune higher than that. Will be sure to state which coil was used as I suspect the SEF is more stable at higher sensitivity levels than the 10" at some sites.

Great Video...It's good to see that the difference in locations really do make a difference in the performance of each mode. The only place I have found the two come close is the Naples, Fort Myres area {disc was deeper by a bit}..seems like..AC down to VB..then the East Coast of Florida, Boca Ronton to Miami, PP had the edge. Just goes to show, what works at one beach may not work as well at another.....Thanks for sharing.........Joe

I live across the street from this beach and have used different detectors here. I've been hunting around the old dock at minus 2.5 - 3.2 tides to get out near the fishing/swimming platform on the end of this 700ft. long dock. Conditions are a bit better this far out. Closer to shore there is larger concentrations of black sand and hot rocks that drive most detectors crazy. Even the Fisher CZ's have trouble here registering anything past 8 inches as iron. I'm still in awe at how well the Sovereign handles the salt and minerals here. It handles the same bad mineralization on land as well. It's hard to gauge the depth of targets as you know in the sand especially near the waters edge where the hole fills in quickly but I have dug targets that I know where in the 15 inch range and a few that were just blips that were a bit deeper. The iron mask on/off feature on the GT is interesting and is very similar to the hot rock accept/reject feature on some Whites detectors. Iron mask on with the GT like hot rock accept on the Whites detectors makes the detector more sensitive to ground minerals and rejected iron in bad ground. Running iron mask off on the GT is more stable in my ground and on the beach with less ground nulling and falsing. Sweep speed seems to be less critical with it off also.
