[/img] Well I went elk hunting with my bow for two weeks like every year but did not score on a elk . We seen Lot's of elk but nobody could get a decent shot o'well there's next year. Anyway took a day off to hunt a couple mining camps , first camp was just loaded with iron I managed 2 Indians and 4 wheat's . Then I found a second camp this is where 10000 miners where camped at again Lot's of iron I spent 2 hour without any thing to show .So I followed this path down to the creek there was a flat spot about half way it looked like it use to have a cabin there a few rotted logs were all that were left .I started to detect around the old foundation Lot's of iron then I get a 12.43 12.45 12.35 signal I started digging 4 inches deep I find a barber dime then 2 barber quarters a v nickel sweep the hole again 12.35 so I dig up a Indian sweep again and a little deeper another Indian . The last Indian I dig has some gold flakes with it so I go to the car and get a pan and bucket I start digging out the hole seeing more flakes then I find some rotted leather pieces mixed in with the dirt . I about filled a 5 gallon bucket with dirt so I go down to the creek to pan out the dirt after a hour I ended up with about a half ounce of gold . It appears I found a old mining poke small leather bag which held the gold and other goodies , left camera at camp as usually There's a ton of ground there with a ton of iron there also, well have to hit this next year when I go back. Idaho has been kind to my ctx last year I recovered a 1916d dime in a small town there . I well have to study up on this spot this winter because I will be going back next year to hunt again . sube

sube, that is awesome. I was stationed at Mountain Home AFB from 1995 until 2001. During that period I shot two elk and a mulie. I really miss living in Idaho. I wish I had the detector equipment then that I have now.

Oh wow! Good for you, bad for miner..

That's a really cool hunt. I like that. Good for you

One of the coolest finds I've seen in a while Sube - sure would like to know the story of why the old miner left that there....

Anytime you hit a trifecta, it is a great day. To find the silver, IH and that much "raw" gold was an awesome day. Congrats on the finds. And thanks for sharing the story and pics. HH Randy

Looks like you found a little window into someone's history there, the kind any of us would love to find! Good eye on finding that spot, and especially on picking out those gold flakes sube! I love seeing those old coins! Thanks for sharing your finds and what a great story, sure makes a person's mind wonder what happened to the miner!!
