Back from Gettysburg!!!

Wow... 484 new posts since I left

I'll try to keep this as short as I can but I think it'll be a long one :)

We stayed at a place that was built in 1800 or so and it ON the Gettysburg battlefield but outside the National Park. Got there late last Thursday afternoon... It rained on Friday and Saturday morning and I didn't get a chance to ask the owner for permission to hunt until Saturday afternoon. It was a "good news / bad news" conversation. Good news was that I was given permission to hunt the entire property (except the fenced in portions). YES!!! The bad news was that the previous owner was a relic hunter. Worse than that, his metal detecting club hunted the entire property :) Oh well... I figured maybe they all missed something? :)

Let me tell you, it was hot, humid and very nasty out. I got out for about 2 hours Saturday night, Sunday morning / night and this morning. There were times I couldn't see anymore for all of the sweat in my eyes and my glasses fogging up. When I got back to my room, you could have rung out my t-shirt. As I expected, the previous owner and his club did a very good job of hunting the area :) But, I did find some interesting things; some stuff I need some help on for an ID:

One of the very first things I dug up was this button. I couldn't believe it!!! However, it didn't take long to figure out it looked TOO good  Seems they must have had re-inactments on the property...

Here's another one... aside from the shape it was in, the fact that the Virginia button was "made in Connecticut" was a bit of a giveaway as to it's age

However, I did come across a button that I think might be legit... From what I can see, it looks like a Federal officer's button. It has 24 stars and the Eagle has 4 arrow in it's talons... What do you think???

Then there was this bullet... it's a small calliber. I put a penny next to it for scale. Any ideas as to what it is?

Lot's of other junk found and some clad... All in all we had a great time! We even made it to Antietam and Harpers Ferry. We've got tons of pictures! Eventually, Vicky will put together a web page of everything. I'll see if I can post some soon...
