B H PLATINUM...

BAYOUMAN1967

New member
hello !!! " NEW HERE " from north-east Louisiana, i see a few users of the bh platinum..here, I'm looking to get one, just want to know if you are happy with it.... any feedback from the users of the bh platinum would be a big help to me. thank you for your time....

Hi BAYOUMAN,

I have a Platinum and really like it. It is very light and easy to use. It only uses one 9V battery and I use the 9.6V PowerEx rechargeables with no problems. It seems to be more sensitive than my Time Ranger and has a faster response time. It seems to be at least as deep as my Time Ranger as well. I love the extra large LCD screen. It pinpoints great too. I bought a set of light weight headphones with a 1/8" plug at Radio Shack for about $30. Each ear piece has a separate volume adjustment. I tried the Bounty Hunter headphones but they only had one in-line volume control and since I don't hear as well in both ears I found the separate volume control to work better for me. The Platinum has an adjustable volume control but it comes on at full volume when you first turn it on. This is great if you aren't wearing headphones but I nearly blasted out my eardrums a time or two when I put the headphones on without turning down their volume before turning on the machine.

Hope this helps you!

Good luck and Happy Hunting!

My BH Platinum with a nice large LCD screen has a super fast recovery speed -faster than the Time Ranger and my 2 Garretts- i like the selectable number of tones --1 thru 4---- a must learn is to Ground Balance (Ground Grab) to get max depth /reduce false signals --and the sensitivity around 4 to 6 starting out--works great -slow to medium sweep speed .--for 300 bucks why buy a Gamma for 200 more or a Omega for double ?-basically the same detector --and the Platinum has a better rod setup (like on the 600 buck Omega), Rick

Thanos, you are doing the right thing. You're new to the hobby, so no need to go out and buy the more expensive unit. Learn the Platinum through out and it will make you a better detectorist from the ground up. After some time, than you can consider a higher model and keep your Platinum as a back up ( it's always nice to have a back up!).

I AM CONSIDERING ONE MYSELF. WHAT IS THE DEPT THAT THE BH PLATINUM CAN DETECT
A TARGET AND IS THE TARGET ID NUMBERS FAIRLY ACCURATE. IS IT GOOD AT DISCRIMAT-
ING. I LIKE THE SPECS. ALSO BUT THERE IS NOT TO MANY POST ABOUT IT.

Reddogg777, The following quote is about the Gamma and the Platinum. The Gamma also has automatic and manual ground balance feature. It seems like the Platinum is a very good deal indeed for land based detecting. My Gamma will air test to 11 to 12 inches. The VID numbers will lock on to about 7 inches and the tones will identify up to 11 to 12 inches, depending on the target. This is in the air, not the ground. Deepest coin dug is at 8 inches so far, and the VID number DID lock on while in the ground. If the Platinum will act similar, it is a great deal. If you don't know, Dave J. is one of the leading Engineers that designed both platforms that these two detectors run on. Hope this helps.

"Depth" about the same. Features pretty much the same. Look about the same. Built about the same.

Main difference is that the Gamma has a number minor improvements in the discrimination "process" similar to those in the Omega, which has a reputation for being very good in iron trash. Also some rescaling of responses. Gamma also has both size headphone jacks and the searchcoil connector is screw coupling type.

I bought a Platinum and after testing it in my coin garden I sent it back and exchanged it for a Teknetics 4000.
The Platinum owners manual states that it will detect a coin up to 9 Inches. The Teknetics 4000 states 11 inches.
After testing the 4000 I found that it has awesome depth in the all metal mode and also displays the TID number.
The Platinum does not display the TID number in all metal.
I am not trying to knock the Platinum but I think the 4000 is a better detector for less money.

The Platinum ROCKS!!
