B/H coil

I was thinking, (my wife says I'm "Does your head hurt?" when I say that) that when my coil is sweeping, it gets caught on sticks and stuff. In the soybean field it was getting caught on the bean stems that was left after they were cut. What if I cut a circle of Plexiglas and put it on the bottom of my coil? Do you think it inter fear with the signals? The bottom would be solid and wouldn't get caught on stuff and I could see thru to the ground.

Waltship, they make plastic coil covers for most coils
if you check with online dealers that carry your make
(at reasonable costs in their accessory pages).
But if you'd rather make your own, that's OK too and
no, it won't interfere with the signal. Just try to find as
thin a plexiglas as you can, so as to not add too much
weight to your coil. Good Luck!

You miss his dilemma...He wants to keep the coil from getting snagged on objects due to the fact that the coil is spider type and open...if he puts a solid piece of plexi on the bottom of the coil and secures it somehow (holes and plastic tie wraps would be my solution), then the coil would be less likely to snag on objects...I do not think this would interfere with depth, or target detection as long as you do not use any conductive (metal) materials...Good luck in your idea...I think it is a good one...And also the fact that you can still see through the plexi...great thinking!!!

Thanks to both for giving your thoughts. The holes and ties is how I thought I would try it. I didn't think adhesive would be too good of a way in case I decided to sell.Take care-stay warm.

i dig the link and like the product, but.... am once again seeing some shameless $$$ exploiting of the hobby, just like everything else "metal detecting" related, the price quadruples. If I were in the same boat, I would be thinking along the lines of a 99 cent frisbee (or plexi-glass) and a heat gun, torch, or oven for some nice tight custom molding. good luck walt, JJ

Ya using plexyglas will work without interfearing with your signals if you want more information talk to waltship
