OK question for you Sovereign owners...

I'm going to be getting back into the hobby after a 6 or 7 yr. hiatus and I have used a LOT of detectors in the past. The detector I always felt that did the best job for me and my style of hunting was the Sovereign. Although I have owned and used the GT, I still feel the older Sovs have no problem keeping up and in fact, my favorite model to this day is the XS. I have a chance to get one for a reasonable price and was going to pimp it out with Ron's meter, a straight shaft and some different coils. The coil I have the most curiosity about is the SEF 12X10. I'm also a huge fan of the 8" CoinSearch coil as it was very user friendly and found me TONS of stuff back in the day. My question to you guys: Does anyone own an older Sov XS with the 12X10 sef coil on it? If so, is it working out as well for you as it seems to be on the GT? My budget is going to be about $1000.00 and instead of just buying a new GT I was thinking about keeping the Sov itself "old school" and pimpin' out everything else. Do you guys think I'm on the right track since an older Sov is about half the cost of a new one? I figure for a grand, I can get the meter, couple coils and a straight shaft for it. Only thing that worries me is that the parts are getting scarce for the older machines but the GT is discontinued anyway so what the hell? Your thoughts? HH George Fatizzi

George Ive never used a 12X10 on the XS model but have on the GT and Elite and they are excellent coils indeed.
Something else you might want to consider if older models not being serviced is a concern is to pick up an Elite or GT box only and work from there. I just picked up a couple of Elites, one was box only and its mint for $350. Performance is the same as the GT, same great battery pack and so on. You should be able to put yourself together a nice Sov with both the 12X10 and a smaller coil also, plus Rons meter for the price you mentioned.

George, the Sovereign XS will serve you well.My guess you would have to spend a lot less money than planned.LOL you forgot the S-1 probe for a total pimped out Sovereign.Good Luck Ron
