What VDI # are you guys getting on these targets and what targets come in the negative # VDI that you dig..trying to set up the V3i to accept all VDI the full range but assign the negative numbers a 0 tone...where do I give a high tone and where do I give a 0 tone...thanks I hope I am being clear on my question you all have been a big help to me..

Rob answered the same question a couple of days ago and no one else wanted to comment: http://www.findmall.com/read.php?66,1520615

Horseshoes and axeheads come in all sizes and the VDI's will vary with them. See what YOUR shoes and axe's VDI as and accept those numbers or just remember what they are so when you come across the same numbers while hunting, you have a good chance of knowing what they are.

OK, here is a target, it is a whistle. What is the VDI? How would I find out?

Simple, sweep the coil over it. The same with the horseshoes. As Larry said, horses are different, and come in different sizes.

The same goes for axeheads.

I like finding axe heads and horse shoes.... I have found many turn of the century and prior axe heads and oxen horse shoes. Some of these where forged by famous blacksmiths and can be worth quite a bit of money. Dont leave um behind unless they are falling apart.

Railroad spike or track hammers are sought after and I have found one of them. Large double bitted axe heads are also collectible. Anything hand forged.

Burlbark,

then you can give him some VDI??? even though these should all be different.

Soon as I get home..... They do vary from axe head to axe head. Some have much more nickle content and will ring up in the mid eighties. Others will ring up as large iron targets. I will try to get some pics also.

What VDI numbers do you relic hunters accept as low as you can go on the VDI scale into negative numbers???

I haven't hunted relics in years but you can bet you'll get some answers if titled right....like throwing in "Civil War" or something?

LowBoy, I think you are missing what I am saying. The reason I posted the pictures was to show that since horseshoes and axe heads are all different no one can say what VDI they will be. They aren't the same size and aren't all made of the same material. Burlbark said he found some in the 80's. Whites shows horseshoe icons for all the negative VDI.

If Burlbark shows you 5 axeheads he found and the VDI for them, it won't prove anything. Ten different axeheads will show 10 different VDI. That's what makes gold rings difficult to find. Ten gold rings all the same karat will probably give ten different VDI depending on size and shape.

If you are going to include ferrous relics you will need to need to dig all VDI.
I'll let someone else answer your question. ROB

Sorry my other detector hits those horse shoes and axe heads as a +70 so they are easy to find the V3i has a vast range it would seem to me relic hunting would be harder with the V3i but that is OK.

Hmmm.
