Was out in a field that an old railroad used to run through. I was hunting with my wife. We found this about a foot down in the dirt. I don't really know if its an axe head but it is shaped like one. This is my first find of the year.

Thanks I was hoping for railroad spikes but hey this works too.

Not really but that's what I thought I would find.

What you have certainly appears to be a single bladed Axe head. Does it have a hole for the handle?

No there is no hole Idk whether its a hatchet or an axe head I'm gonna try to clean it and post a better picture

If there is no hole thru the item then it can not be an axe or hatchet head as there has to be a hole for the handle to fit thru.

Could have been a splitting wedge. Is it thick and heavy yet the general shape of an axe head?
