Awesome Relic and Silver Day.

Today was an excellent day for me. My hunting buddy and I went to a site we had been to before. He had found a few pre-civil war buttons there, but I had never found anything. That all changed today, I was digging anything with a non ferrous signal today, and hunting in all metal mode. I started by finding small pieces of melted lead, then a large caliber ball, and a few small caliber lead balls. By the end of the hunt, I had found a lot of misc. brass, copper, and lead items. But best of all was a 1773 Half Reale, with the Mexico City mint mark. After returning home and cleaning the clay and mud off of the other items, I found I had done very well there, also. A General Services button 1850-60 era (even though it's crushed pretty bad), a Dragoon cuff button from the same era, a backmarked "Jacksons Victory" 1829 campaign button - listed in Alberts Book PC78, 2-lead or pewter 4-hole buttons, a concave button with shank broken off and drilled w/4 holes, and an item that is either a button or possibly coin. There were also 2-copper or brass square shanked round head tacks in the rest of the misc items. This site evidently, was a place the military camped at on a regular basis. Any help with any additional information on these items would be appreciated.

A VERY good hunt Steve, congratulations.

nice finds... what state you hunting in ? i dont believe ive ever seen 4 holed buttons that old before.... at least not in this country.... the guys over england seem to dig that style of 4 holed button......

Thanks for the input on the four hole buttons. I have checked both sides of them, and couldn't find any markings that might help with manufacture, etc.. I was hunting in Missouri not far from the Missouri River.
