Hey all ! just thought id report on the afternoon finds here ! you know i bought a bh t4 for my son for xmas, and then i got so hooked my wife had to let me buy one for me for my bday in feb! so ive been detecting for 2 months now of and on as weather permits. well today was nice after i was done with my chores at the old country school i take care of so me and my daughter and about 5 little ones from the school went out on the big field adjacent to the school and things were a little slow but then i found a sterling silver ring ( broken on the band but what the heck it was my 2nd ring ive found ,the 1st was at a high school in the closest big town to us , any how wife called us in for dinner, so we ate then i went back out by myself, found another ring broken< a cheapo> but hey still cool then found 2 wheat pennies a silver dime , a qaurter and then the big prize, a sterling silver ring with a blue gem in nearly perfect condition! what an awesome time! i owe many thanks for all the good advice given by the good folks on this site that have been at it for a while , thanks to you guys for sharing your knowledge and passion for this hobbey!:clapping: By the way the detector i bought for my bday is a titan 2000 i then bought the 10 inch coil for it and have found deeper coins in the same areas that i coverd with the original coil that came with it! its an easy detector to learn and use, the debth indicator is rareley accurate even for coins, but when it reapets the signal and the depth stays the same on the read out I know ive got somthing, and yes, today i did dig plentey of washers and pull tabs too , i thought i should mention that! LOL .anyhow good day to you all happy hunting and i hope to learn soon how to post pics so i can share the finds that way with you guys. Scott charp.

Wow!!, sounds like some great fertile ground ripe for the picking. Maybe dig a bunch up, bag it, and sell it as Scott's Turf Coin and Ring Builder. My checks in the mail. And what a blast it is to get the young ones involved! It sounds like your quickly getting to know your detector. congrats and Great Hunting!!

You will always want to keep in mind that the depth of a target on your display is estimated from the coil to the target, not from the surface of the ground to the target. In other words, if a coin is 2 inches deep and the coil is 2 inches from the ground, the display will estimate the depth at 4 inches. Another good reason to keep the coil as level and close to the ground as possible. And, the depth on the display and the possible ID of the target is at best, an estimate. You've got to admit digging a solid target is fun no matter how deep it is. Enjoy the hunt.
Thought this may help.

wow, scott, you really did have a good day. 3 rings in one day is excellent. and the silver dime is a real good one too. if youv'e done the whole field, then phase 2 is in order. turn your sensitivity up as far as the hunt conditions will allow. reduce your discrimination to just above iron, and use a fresh battery. if there's silver in the field, then chances are there's gold in there too. i hope you have headphones! you need a good pair to hear the deeper, older signals. you know what to do from there. i'll be looking for your gold ring post, since i know it's coming. good luck, and hh,
