Awesome Book!... "Mastering the Minelab Sovereign"

Okay... so the book doesn't really exists. But it should!!! ( Hint to Andy ;-)
I originally had the subject of this post titled "Any Good Books on the Sovereign?" ... but I was afraid the subject wasn't exciting enough to generate any real interest.
True... I could surf all the different newsgroups and compile my own folder of Sovereign hints and tips that have been provided over the years. Only problem is... some of the information is misleading, and some (given in good faith) is just plain wrong! Or when it's good information... it's written by a seasoned detectorist, who writes in abbreviated detectorist lingo, that leaves the new guys scratching their heads as to what they just read. Heck... even a "Glossary" of common detectorist terms would be nice!
The Sovereign is a time tested machine that has been around for "many" years. Sovereign owners who also own Explorers won't deny the Sov goes deep and gives the Explorer a run for the money.
If not a book... how about a video? Step by step demonstrations of the Sov in action. You know... so the Sov owner could see and "hear" it in use. What to listen for... What the tones are telling you... A "on-the-job training video of sorts. (Hopefully better than Exploring the Explorer.) Actually Exploring the Ex is okay, but its more of a demo tape showing what the Ex can do rather than how to do it. The actor for the Sov vid wouldn't even have to do live digs (after all Hollywood doesn't really kill people for the murder scenes) The whole thing could be a reenactment and dubbed with actual Sov sounds so the viewer could "see and hear" the techniques in action. Trying to make a video of real live digs would inflate the budget and leave a lot of film footage (digging trash) on the cutting room floor. Heck... for the purpose of the video they could admit to planting objects for the purpose of making the video and training.
Anyway... back to the book idea... Thanks to Andy, all Explorer owners have access to the "classic"... "Mastering the Minelab Explorer XS & S". Quattro owners have "Mastering the Quattro" (again thanks to Andy)... but what about us Sovereign owners? Does a comparable Sov book exist? I'll tell you what... if I had even a fraction of Andys knowledge on detectors I'd be write the book myself.
NET: Are there any good "sovereign specific" books on the market. (Note that I said "specific") I've seen a couple books that make mention the Sov, or touch on its characteristics, or write up a couple generalized paragraphs about it... but not one specifically dedicated to mastering it. With all the previous generation Sovs already on the market, the release of the new Elite and the even newer 2005 GT, with optional equipment like the DigiSearch meter I would think the market would be ripe for... "Mastering the Sovereign."

One dealt with learning the machine itself and the other was about learning to find rings with the Sov and Excalibur. I don'; know if they are still in print but if you do a search you may still be able to find a copy or two. They also show up on the classified forum from time to time.

to see and a video packaged together with it would be even better. The Sovereigns have allot of history since Andy's book and it's time for a new one.
We all have people that we look up to and count on for the straight talk and advise on detecting. I know I do, the problem is that most of these folks don't really post specifics.... you simply have to ASK on the forums and hope for the best when you try different scenarios in the field. Of course, nothing will beat time spent and hands on hunting experience with any detector.
I'd really like to see someone like David Keith get involved in a Soveriegn video/book. I've hunted with quite a few people that visit these forums and can assure you that David really UNDERSTANDS the Sovereign language better than anyone I've ever ran across.
Minelab or somebody needs to gather up a dream team and get busy on this ... I'd buy it without hesitation.
Now don't get mad at me David, I'm not voluntering your services but I for one would like to see some updated real world info available.

That could have happened years ago but now I think the chances are slim to none, would be great to see David in a Video.... ..Geo

Believe it or not I found both of them at the local library. Both volumes were dog eared and tired looking.(Pretty much like the information found in them.) Some of the info is still relevant... but a lot of it is dated.
It would be akin to buying a Chiltons Book on automobile engine tuning from 10 years ago. While some of it still applies there is very little insight into todays computer systems, the diagnostics, the do-it-yourself systems for interfacing with the autos computer, tuning to pass emissions etc.
Similar situation here. With all the advancements in metal detecting technology over the last ten years (as well as the 10 more years of experience under Andys belt) I think he could put together one kick a_ _ book for the Sovereign.

are Otto Feilers and Mike Keeners "Finding Rings with Minelab Sov and Excal" and Dick Noels "Tips for Success using Minelabs Sov and Excal. Ralph at Sunray used to have copies of these books and still might have some Otto might have some for sale thru his Detector business. All these books are worth the time to read as like this forum, you get good Detectorists thoughts and experience using these detectors...HH..Geo

Yep... read "both" of them. Your photo is of Volume 1. There was also a Volume 2 of the same title.
Back in 2002 one book frequently given away with the sale of the Sovereign was called "The Hunt for Amazing Treasure"... However, it too was just another generic book on MD'ing and not specfic to getting the most out of a Sovereign.

When my wife gets better, I'm seriously considering offering a two day instructional Sovereign school in Nashville. Would I travel to other cities? Possibly. It would depend upon how much interest there is. Takes a lot of time and effort to construct a live class; and time means money to all of us. I am considering a new Sov book. May release it with the first class. Anyone interested? Good hunting, David @ Dixie

I hope you do David, wish Wilma was still around I know a Video could have been made.....Geo

There seems to be a growing ground swell looking for a book covering the Sovereign line specifically. I had thought of this projtect but was not sure where the line would go (or if it would be phased out). With the new GT, the line appears to be sticking around for some time so this may be back on the radr screen.
What's the general interest and what specific areas would you want covered . . . . . . adding a CD / DVD to each book would really not be feasible due to the cost for a low printing run.
I welcome any input - shoot me an E-mail with your thoughts and requests.

I'd like to see a book with more specific Sovereign tips and tricks. Your other books were a bit to general for me. The title could be "Advanced Techniques For Mastering The Minelab Sovereign". I would buy that book!
By the way Andy. I met you many years ago at a FMDAC convention and you advised me to get the Excalibur to use at Lake George in NY. That advice was excellent. The Excalibur works great up there, even with all the mineralization that caused problems with my Fisher CZ. ~John

Can anyone tell me where these books can be purchased either here in New Zealand or over the ditch in Australia.

Dave...I need an educational vacation....so a road trip is in order unless you get a massive response from the northeast that brings you up near me. The class would be a great opportunity for Sov people to learn...re-learn...and enjoy the hobby with dedicated Sov heads!
