Okay... so the book doesn't really exists. <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry"> But it should!!! ( Hint to Andy ;-)
I originally had the subject of this post titled "Any Good Books on the Sovereign?" ... but I was afraid the subject wasn't exciting enough to generate any real interest.
True... I could surf all the different newsgroups and compile my own folder of Sovereign hints and tips that have been provided over the years. Only problem is... some of the information is misleading, and some (given in good faith) is just plain wrong! Or when it's good information... it's written by a seasoned detectorist, who writes in abbreviated detectorist lingo, that leaves the new guys scratching their heads as to what they just read. Heck... even a "Glossary" of common detectorist terms would be nice!
The Sovereign is a time tested machine that has been around for "many" years. Sovereign owners who also own Explorers won't deny the Sov goes deep and gives the Explorer a run for the money.
If not a book... how about a video? Step by step demonstrations of the Sov in action. You know... so the Sov owner could see and "hear" it in use. What to listen for... What the tones are telling you... A "on-the-job training video of sorts. (Hopefully better than Exploring the Explorer.) Actually Exploring the Ex is okay, but its more of a demo tape showing what the Ex can do rather than how to do it. The actor for the Sov vid wouldn't even have to do live digs (after all Hollywood doesn't really kill people for the murder scenes) The whole thing could be a reenactment and dubbed with actual Sov sounds so the viewer could "see and hear" the techniques in action. Trying to make a video of real live digs would inflate the budget and leave a lot of film footage (digging trash) on the cutting room floor. Heck... for the purpose of the video they could admit to planting objects for the purpose of making the video and training.
Anyway... back to the book idea... Thanks to Andy, all Explorer owners have access to the "classic"... "Mastering the Minelab Explorer XS & S". Quattro owners have "Mastering the Quattro" (again thanks to Andy)... but what about us Sovereign owners? Does a comparable Sov book exist? I'll tell you what... if I had even a fraction of Andys knowledge on detectors I'd be write the book myself.
NET: Are there any good "sovereign specific" books on the market. (Note that I said "specific") I've seen a couple books that make mention the Sov, or touch on its characteristics, or write up a couple generalized paragraphs about it... but not one specifically dedicated to mastering it. With all the previous generation Sovs already on the market, the release of the new Elite and the even newer 2005 GT, with optional equipment like the DigiSearch meter I would think the market would be ripe for... "Mastering the Sovereign."
