Automax v4 pinpointer

I see Kelly Co is still giving these away with a purchase.

I cant help but wonder???? WHY???? Have they ever tested one? A friend of mine bought 2 detectors from them awhile back and received two Auto-max V4 pinpointers. They are absolutely worthless.

They list them for $140.00. What a joke. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Don't they hit you up for $14.95 to ship it? That's about $10.99 more than it's worth. Especially compared to the Propointer!

Kellyco doesn't "give" anything away  Don't get me wrong, I've bought 1 detector along with the V4, and my ProPointer from them, and have nothing but good to say about them, but on the other hand (as mentioned) I don't fall for their over-priced "bait". It's low-quality stuff with a jacked-up SRMP to make someone feel as they're stealing it. Now I'm talking about the "freebies". I've since found buying elsewhere gets me free shipping.

My only complaint with the V4 was it's physical size. I got mine with my 250 3-4 years ago, and it's still ticking. Matter of fact I just gave it to dad. It's not "top of the line" by any means, but I wouldn't say it's junk.....just awkward.

They are so big and long you can strap a fishing reel on it and deep sea fish with it. Seen one guy hang his TV antenna up on one. Another guy uses one to probe the 4th stomach of his cows. Then there's this lady I know that uses hers ................

Why am I not surprised.
There are few pin pointers out there except for Whites that make good pointers. There are some others that start at $169.00
that you attach to your metal detector ( can't remember their names at the moment) and people swear by them but I'm not ready to spend that kind of money.

Fishers was actually giving away their pin pointers as part of a bonus if you bought one of their detectors. Those are worthless as well.

Stay with Garrett and Whites. You can't go wrong.

Yaeh, I have had two of them and I gave them both away. Compared to my pro pointer the v4 is junk! I also got mine with the purchase from Kellyco and I wouldn't have ever paid 140.00 for it! I could even justify buying batteries for it!:garrett:

Katz, Your talking about the Sunray Probes. They work great but add 11 ounces to your machine. I had one for my 250 and would slip the probe into my pocket to reduce the weight. But I really love the Propointer.

Dunno. I've been using a V2 for over four years and have no problems with it at all.
As far as pinpointing, it works perfectly fine. Like one mentioned, it's main drawback
is that it's bulky with it's fairly large box body and long probe. Also, I imagine it could
break fairly easy if you sat on it, dropped it on cement, etc..
But unless both of his V4's were some way defective, I don't see how he would consider
them worthless. In theory, the V4 should be better than the V2 I have.
As far as pinpointing, I've never had a problem, and certainly glad I got one cheap
with the 250 I bought from them. I think I ended up paying about $40 for mine with
shipping. I've never regretted it, and have no plans to buy a different model until
that one craters. It does what I need it to, which is to locate objects in the holes.

I'm just really joking around. Some have simply cut the handle off to make it shorter. I think the V2 was audio only and the V4 has vibrate. I'm sure it works the way it's intended. But who is Kellyco kidding? $140 for a V4! When you can buy a Propointer for $127.......

Mine has vibrate, and that's all I've ever used.. I hate the loud buzzer.. Wakes up
everyone into the next county.. :/
Yep, I agree for $140 it's probably not that great a deal. But for the usual cut
rates they let them go for in the package deals, I think they are well worth the
money if one has no other pinpointers. It beats the heck out of no pinpointer
at all. Except the the bulkiness, I actually like mine. I like it being adjustable
sensitivity, and it's "depth" performance is plenty good enough for gov work.
I don't like one too sensitive to where it lights up *too* far away from the object.
But also, I get pretty close just with the pinpointing on the 250, so it's detect
distance has always been good enough to do the job.
But yea, if I had to pay full price, I'd go for the propointer mainly cuz it's more
rugged and pocket friendly.

Just got back to see these responses. LMAO

A few things I need to say.
The V2s work OK I know someone else that has one and its not bad at all. V4s are NOT an improvement.

And to be corrected. Now that mentioned there was a 20$ charge when buying a detector,,not free like I said. Seemed free compared to 140$. I actually paid him for one V4 ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and gave it back to him. He still has them, brand new in the box.

Let me say this,,, the two V4s my friend recieved are worthless. absolute junk!!!!!
It will pick up a quarter if the probe end is touching it on its side,,,,,and I mean touching. turn quarter on edge,,,touching,,,, get nothing. JUNK!!!!!! Both units had the same outcome. Someone mentioned "better than nothing" I disagree!

I posted about this when (we) first got these V4s and everybody responded saying they were JUNK.( at least 7 people). And now I see they are still selling these worthless items. (im going to go look in my old saved posts to see if I can find my original post about the V4,,and responses)

QUESTION????? Does anyone have one that works??????

I agree,,, I have 2 whites Bull eye pinpointers, and have used them for a very long time. One is about wore out. They work great.
I figured after seeing the V2 working well,,, I would buy a V4 for $20... what a deal ,,,right??
I believe We got these V4s when they first come out with them and it ticks me off to see that there are still marketing them as a bonus item,or even selling them. It should be a crime to sell a item that does not do what it claims to do.

The V4 could be a nice ornament for the top of your Christmas three.
Kays

Yea. The Sun Ray was what I was talking about in another post. Too expensive for me.

Must be some design flaw in the V4's I guess.. I've never tried one of those..
As I mentioned, mine is a V2, which seems ok. Oh well.. another day, another
$2.31... I'll know to avoid the V4 if I ever have the occasion to get one cheap.

I also have the V4. Yes it is bulky and i have dropped it a few times. Now I have tape wrapped around the bottom part of the barrel due to its cracking. Oh well I will use it till my Garrett's pro pointer comes in. There is a screw under the clip. I have gained some sensitivity by making my own adjustments. It is an OK pin pointer but your right for the price way to high.
