may be mistaken by law enforcement for some kind of automatic weapon. Especially if you put it in a holster arrangement like I do. I got one of these with a KCO., detector purchase a couple of years ago and actually use the dumb thing.
When I know a coin or small relic is out of the hole and in the surface dirt, or plug , or more usual in a pile of narly rooty backwater beach sand (I use a shovel in wet sand and try to get the find out on the first shovel full) and if I can't locate it, I run the PPT through the pile, poking and prodding (note - I did not say probing - it ain't one), until I get a hit with the PPT. It also picks up little trash pieces because it does not discriminate. You need to be sifting with your fingers too and the PPT has to touch or be in an inch or so of the target. It actually works good for this and I use it in vibration mode with headphones.
I carry it in a GI shovel holder that I wear on my belt and the PPT extends through a hole made for the shovel handle. Drops right in , always handy, and you can't lose it (the dang thing is a foot long). I recently found out that you can actually tinker with the sensitivity on this thing, by removing the belt clip and adjusting a set screw through a small hole hidden behind the clip. Now I get an inch and a half.
You laugh at 1 1/2 inches, but now when I sneak up on the wife I can actually get some running room when I PPT her earring with a loud beeeeep in audio mode. The dog is always impressed with her reaction. So I guess you could add entertainment value to this little jewel's characteristics. 14.95 - Its a bargain, until your ready to go for a real probe!!!
If you can handle the freight go with Ricks advice and get a real probe like I intend to do. HH Don
