Automatic vs. Manual?

Hi, everyone,

I generally hunt for coins with a 13 inch Ultimate coil and have been using sensitivity of auto plus 3. Could I gain even more depth by going to manual? Easy digging right now in western Oregon so if you're going to go deep this is the time to do it.

Thanks,

Mike

Like most settings it depends on conditions. In auto the E-Trac uses the frequency that it determines is going to give the best and most accurate results a boost over the other two. In manual all three frequencies are treated equally. In the right conditions it is better to have, say the low conductor target, analyzed by a single dominate high frequencyrather than all three frequencies equally

I believe it's the Noise cancel number that picks what range of frequencies the machine will use shifting it higher or lower starting at 1.5 kHz and going to a range of one hundred I believe.
The 3 your referring to is three channels that the Etrac uses to compare to each other and the ground to see where it's best for the machine to run the sensitivity automatically wise.
Running AUTO +3 pushes that number up higher by 3 and -3 pushes it lower by 3 whatever that amount may be and it well may be 3 plus number wise higher like 19 normal plus 3 = 22 so it can run a bit hotter than it thinks is best from it's sampling internally. So If you want to go manual sensitivity I would go like 25 or 26 just a few numbers higher and see if it's not to chatty to run and get even more depth but I usually leave it at AUTO+3 myself and it seems to go plenty deep...

Etrac Tom is right about the freq. For me it depends on how deep the targets are, how trashy it is and where A+3 is running, say if the coins are 6-8 max and A+3 is running in the mid twenty's I leave it there. but with it cranked up in Manual you will have to slow down even more which means less ground covered if it's trashy, but in clean ground say in plowed fields Manual cranked up is good .... there is a time and a place for both, in heavy deep iron I have even found a lot more with A-3 .... just depends on the conditions as to what I do. it's too great of a machine to run it just one way
