Auto sensitivity had me scratching my head

foreign object

New member
Lets see if I can set this up right.

I have always run my CTX in manual and this may explain why.
Just got the etrac and automatically se it to manual and away I went. I kept reading over and over that auto was more stable so out to the test garden I go with the machine set in manual and I hit my lone 8 plus in merc with no problem. I then switch to auto and se at plus 3 and I don't get a peep. I go to (A) and work up to plus three and still nothing. Back to manual 19 and bam there it is. Back to auto plus 3 and not a peep.

Put it back to manual and decided that is where I need to operate.

Next morning still thinking about auto vs manual and set the machine to auto plus three.Turn the machine off and have a cup of coffef waiting for daylight. Back to the lone dime turn on the machine and bam hits it hard. Adjust down to (A) and bam still hitting it hard.
Now im scratching my almost bald head. Switch to manual and again bam. Back to auto not a peep again.

Not sure if all etracs do it or not but I found that switching from manual to auto it takes 10 to 15 seconds for the machine to do what ever it does before it will hit the target. If you turn it on in auto you are good to go as it will hit on the first swing.

Going to check the CTX tomorrow. I have avoided using auto on it because I could not get it to hit that dime and I think that it is because I never give it a chance / waited long enough for it to work as it should.

Time will tell

When you go to manual you are disengaging/disconnecting/disregarding/ignoring(call it whatever you want) the sensitivity setting the etrac is giving you as to what it feels is the optimal sensitivity should be. It arrives at that setting by analysing/cancelling/tracking/nullifying the ground conditions. If you swap from manual to auto , the etrac needs sufficient time to reanalyse/taste/sample/track the ground conditions to arrive at the correct sensitivity setting. When I switch from manual to auto my machine often chirps at the first movement as it readjusts to the ground.
Many like to run their etracs at higher sensitivity than auto 3 with good results---depends on your dirt---it doesn't help much in mine.
The CTX may operate differently
