Auto Ground Balance

I'm considering buying a Safari but having never owned a Minelab, I was wondering how well the "auto ground compensation" worked. I want a detector that can handle beach sand and mineralized soil. I don't want factory preset ground balance. As I understand it, Minelab's ground balance is not a preset. Would I be better off with a manually ground balanced machine?
