Auto Accept/Reject and Accept/Reject Help

Not sure I fully understand how to use this feature on the CTX 3030. I have read the manual and still don't understand how to use it. Please Help!

Within the CTX 3030, you can adjust any discrimination Pattern manually or automatically. If you edit the screen manually, you move the little box around and either set each area to accept or reject. In the automatic mode, you scan a target and tell the detector whether you want those FE/CO properties accepted or rejected. And it does it for you.

For example, let's say you were hunting in your favorite program, digging coins like you never have before. Suddenly, you come upon an area that had a whole bunch of targets that sound good. But when you start digging them, you see that some kid dropped bolts out of his erector set (am I dating myself here?). Anyway, you decide you don't want to dig anymore of these little bolts that are coming in as good on your favorite program. So you pull one of the pieces off to the side, lay it on the ground, set up the CTX 3030 to automatically reject those target properties, scan over the bolt and the detector adds that FE/CO number combination into the rejected batch.

I've actually used the Auto Accept to build a "coin only" program for a couple parks I hunt. I start out with a screen and Reject ALL. Then scan one of each of the coin types I am looking for, and automatically accept those FE/CO coordinates. Everything else remains rejected. I don't recommend anyone doing this. I'm just saying I have, in a couple particular sites. HH Randy

Think you could get with Minelab and help them write the Next Manual, the way you explane it makes it a simple operation. Thanks Oh, and the Ground Balance artical was Outstanding. Thanks again

Thanks for the compliments. The manuals are written by some very talented folks at Minelab. And knowing how tough it can be to explain technical procedures, I can't take anything away from their efforts. I try to write things as they've applied to me, out in the field. That is what I did when I wrote the book for the X-TERRA. (available FREE on Minelab's website) I've considered writing something similar for the CTX 3030. But with the popularity of videos, I'm not sure another book is the way to go. I think the reason I can explain the CTX 3030 operation is because I didn't have a manual for nearly the whole first year of field testing. All the notes I took were "in my own words". And that is how I try to make my comments to others. HH Randy

If you decide to write a book, but me first on the list to order one. Videos are OK but you can't beat a book to grab and check out if you are doing it right or just sitting on the couch going over the all that information thrown at you. Detailed information like what you wrote buts all the peices together to help understand the CTX 3030. So Thanks Again and start thinking of writing that book.

I'll keep you posted. But if I write one, there will not be a list where you have to order it. My agreement with Minelab on the X-TERRA book was simple.....I give it to them to publish, free of charge. And they had to make it available as an eBook on their website, free of charge. Just like detecting.....I write because I enjoy doing it. Not for financial gain. If I had to rely on either to make ends meet, I'd certainly be broke! JMHO HH Randy

So, I am assuming that if I dig up a spark plug washer that rings up 12-45/6 every time, and I reject that, I will be rejecting SLL 12-45/6 numbers? Where I am hunting, demolished house lots, a huge amount of targets ring up as coins and they are dug or not dug based on tone quality, repeat signal, size, depth, etc.. I have dug many targets with numbers that were shaky at best, like a 12-39 Merc, that turn out to be good coins or rings, and also dug many great 12-33 or 45/6 signals that were small bits of copper or aluminum/tin. Also, I have found that many of the zinc pennies will ring up lower, around 35-38 if they have been eaten up by the ground.

So, back to the question, if I reject a number am I just rejecting every target that rings up that number, or is something more than that?

That is correct. Think of the screen as a piece of graph paper that has 35 horizontal rows of boxes and 50 vertical rows of boxes. Those rows of boxes represent FE (35) and CO (50) TID values,. If you take 35 X 50, you have 1750 possible FE/CO combinations. Discrimination is based on which of those FE / CO box combinations we set to accept and which ones we set to reject. If you reject a specific FE/CO set of numbers, say FE 12 by CO 45, all targets with that TID will be rejected. HH Randy

If you reject for instance: 12-45/46 for a spark plug washer that you mentioned, you have just rejected out anything that registers in the 12-45/46 spot......HH
