Auto + 3 question

Just wondering...

I've never had my machine run higher than 19 when I select auto. I usually go manual sens. 27at around but definitely get more falsing and the threshold blanks out more in the 27 range. Has anyone else auto'd higher than 20?

Thanks for the feedback.

My "favorite park" usually only allows my E-Trac to hit 19 in Auto +3. I do have some other sites where it can hit up to 23 in Auto +3. If I am in an area that is keeping me down to 19, I usually switch to Manual and run it at 22 or 23 and deal with the falsing. I usually can not get away with running it as high as 27 in those areas. I've seen some of Bill_S' videos where he has run his in Auto +3 in the Missouri parks and it will constantly maintain the mid to upper twenties. Probably has low mineralization in his soil.

I was hunting a beach today in +3 and sensitivity was running at 29 at times. Depends totally on the ground you are swinging over.

Yes,totally ground dependent. I'm usually between 19-27...

I think one of the magic of the E-trac is its auto sens. I try switching to manual but seem to dig a lot more trash. Lot more erratic. Auto +3 with NEL coils seems to do the trick. The thunder seems more stable and able to generate higher Sen in auto than the Hunter coil.

I suspected as much due to the mineralization in my area but all your responses have helped me a great deal. For giggles, I took off my 6" excellerator and put the stock coil on during a recent hunt. +3 ran at sensitivity 23 where the 6" hotter coil maxed out at 19 on the same ground. Interestingly enough, I was able to pick up wheat pennies at 8 inches with both coils...

Hey Mike,

Next time you find yourself with a deep target, change over from your auto +3 to Manual sensitivity, do a little testing and see how your etrac responds. It is nice to read how others set up their detector. It is better to know for yourself. (IMHO)

not always the ground that pushes auto down but the jibber jabbers also known as EMI and that's why running manual will false its the jibber jabbers....

some coils will rev higher in the same spots just trial and error on what coils to use where..

Personally, I believe that the fundamental facts regarding Auto sens., are:-

Level 16 indicates 'normal/average. ground in terms of ferro mineralisation AND its low-conductive moisture contents.

If the Fe component increases, the auto-level decreases from the general 16 reading.

If the moisture-contents of the soil/sand becomes more conductive (lowering the 'ground's resistance compared to the 'average' ) then the auto-sens level rises above 16.

Typical scenario; farmland soils subjected to animal droppings/urine, and wet conditions.

or Sea water, or saturated sand...salt contents make the 'media' more conductive.

Alternatively:- soil of volcanic origin; man-made ash contamination, or cinder/brick rubble, etc., lowers the 16 average reading.

Such conditions can affect the appropriate Fe or/and Con target assessments....

My etrac normally runs at 19 at the lowest in auto +3. It goes as high as 22-23 at its best.

Yeah I've also seen the magical 31 in auto +3. I don't think it is really 31. I think the minelab programmers just forgot to limit the number displayed to 30 when in auto +3. Whoops!

I pretty much ONLY use the sef 6x8 coil anymore and normally in auto +3 I average 24-25 sensitivity. If I am in an area only getting 19 with auto I will flip to manual 19 and still pull coins at 7-8" no problem
