Aussie ring sales?

Question for fellow Aussie water hunters.

Where do you guys sell your better rings ie. ones with stones?

I'm starting to build up a nice collection so I took them to a jeweler mates for him to test the stones.
He put a casual valuation on some of the better ones. Was pleasantly surprised.
However....... we all know that selling them for the valuation price is impossible, and would have to expect that I would realise much less than that.
But seeing as most only have 2-3 grams gold content, anything better than melt value would be a bonus.

I had a look through the Yellow Pages under Jewelers and found a few that buy second hand jewelry.
Has anybody here in Oz had any experience with them?
What about pawn shops? I know they rip the yanks off big time but what about here?
Not interested in selling at markets or Ebay, too much like hard work.
So guys, any clues?

Lou.

hay Lou ya still pulling lots of gold outta the sand :detecting: my excals still on only 1 gold so far seems to be slim pickings on some of the beaches out in the bay i"v been pulling some outta the dirt though with my other detector.
i"v done some research into selling gold & most pay gold value only witch sucks some pay 1/2 gold value witch sucks bigger - pawn store  - cashies  - eBay for unique rings it"s all right but for plain ones  the only way i reckon you"ll get a reasonable $$ for rings is -1 put them in a jewellery auction -2 sell to a top end secondhand jewellery store -3 sell to Friends & family & that's about it
hope this helps

G'day Lazy,

Yep, been cleaning up lately.
Since I've seen you last I've found heaps.
Last weekend alone 4 gold rings including one valued at $2500. One 7.4 gram gold 9ct ingot off a chain, 4 silver pendants including one 1/2 ounce .998 pure ingot still on the chain, 5 silver rings and a silver bracelet.
Not to mention a stainless steel identicare {2nd I've found now} pendant. Its a screw together, 2 part thingy that people with medical conditions put vital medical info into in case they have a turn. Info was soaked and unreadable.
Plus the usual coins, keys, sinkers, bullets etc.
The other week I found a wallet, {2nd I've found also}. It had a stack of cards in it. Judging by the expiry dates it was lost about 1990ish.
The guy lives or lived in Doveton. Only had less than $1 in coins in it, cant remember exactly how much now.
Would have tried to return it if it was'nt so long lost.
Got onto an interesting spot in the bay.
Very shallow sand onto a hard mud bottom, in places the mud is exposed.
Only got one gold chain, 6 gram 9ct, plenty of silver, coins including predecimals and bullets, heaps of bullets.
Theres a critter, a type of shellfish I think, that burrows into the mud and leaves a hole about an inch wide and a few deep when it dies. In places their everywhere only a couple of inches apart. Every so often I'd get a feint signal over these, their perfect ring traps.
After I'd work out which hole had the signal I'd have to dig it out with my knife cause the mud it too hard to get the scoop into.
I wear the knife after that idiot tried to drown me the other week.
So yeah, been having a ball! Cant wait for this long weekend, the wifes going away so three days of detecting bliss and no nagging!

Cheers Lou.
