Aussie Bottles

Ken (Australia)

New member
Just thought I would post a pic of a few Aussie Bottles from my collection. I've just started metal detecting within the last 12 months but have been a bottle collector for years. I've dug most of mine from farm or town dumps and a few wells. The ceramic bottles on the bottom are all ginger beer which was a very popular drink and they date from the 1880's through to the 1940's.

Wow....nice ...I have yet to find a whole ceramic, found plenty of pieces....Darn frost heaves break alot or kids had fun throwing rocks at them....I started this hobby a little too late I think...it was a big thing back in the 1960's around here so I was just a kid then...and never got into it till the late 1980's, so alot of the good dumps have been dug all ready and alot of the land is posted, "no trespassing" now, so slim pickings....but I know it can still be done with research and alot of searching and digging......Nice bottles!!!

Hello Ken,
I love your collection of bottles there. The purple codds are lovely, I haven't found one of those yet (here's hoping!). Some of the old ginger beer pottery bottles can be worth quite a bit, I think particularly if the lip of the bottles is blue on some makes. I have a few of the blue castor oil ones like yours. But I'd be really interested what's written on your other codds. Where were they manufactured? If you can manage a closeup of them, I'd be utterly grateful!
Cheers Angela::)
