August was a tough month for beach hunts with the XT705. Lots of rain was one issue because it keeps the sand hard and wet...Not much gets lost when it can't disappear when dropped and not to many tourist like putting a towel down on wet beach sand. The other issue was I took out a couple toes late one night on a squared off wooden couch leg that kept me shoeless for 4 days and not walking so well for a week. But I still got out to the beach 6 times finding one silver earring, $28.37 clad and a $5 dollar eye find. Best morning was $8.64, worst $4.08, largest take $10.59 if including the fiver.
I also had a call out to find some lost keys. A beach worker called about one of his customers losing some keys. I meet him out there and he showed me the area to hunt while waiting for the guy to come down to the beach, after 20 minutes I was sure they were not there and about that time the guy shows up with the keys that he had found in his beach chair. In appreciation of me showing up and wanting to thank me for my time he gave me $20 and I gave the worker who called me $10.
The wedding ring set, although it is fake/junk, was a good lesson that I have learned to hunt by when beach and water hunting...Don't walk away from that first find! I found the band part first and knowing it was part of a set continued hunting that area till the other half was found. I always grid or spiral out from a first found target, weather its a coin, ring, bracelet or charm, because you never know if you're leaving the best for someone else if you don't follow through and grid that area.
