Auestion for GTI 2500 users

I just got my income tax refund.I need a new detector.Key word is need!!! How does the 2500 handle rusty bottle caps and aluminum screw caps? They are the big downfall of the detector I have now. They sound off as a coin and about the time I decide not to dig one and dig it anyway it ends up being a quarter.Any help would be appreciated.signed Pensive on the Prairie.

Rusty bottle caps can change to true disc (showing them as bottle caps) simply by stamping the ground hard with your foot above the target. Then the Garrett will read it as junk. Aluminum screw caps will read a notch or two to the left of penny and will often read as a "C" size target. They are a problem for all metal detectors. On Garretts they don't "BANG" as hard as coins, and have a softer tone.

The 2500 is truly a fantastic coin and relic hunters machine. The Imaging (sizing) feature will allow you to QUICKLY make a decision to leave a lot of the garbage such as pop cans in the ground and allow you a much higher probability of good targets overall. If you have any other questions, just ask.......

I almost never dig rusty bottle caps and I dig an old screw top every once in a while. Usually deeper than about 4-5 inches. I suspect this is a combination of the detector and the sites I usually hunt. Whole screw caps are usually target size C. Coins are almost always size B or A. For some reason nickels sometimes image as size C.

Imaging is where it's at and I could not detect without it now. I never have to dig old cans unless I want to see whats there. I sometimes get a small piece of one on size C targets which is not completely a surprise. Pinpointing with the 2500 is deadly accurate as long as your technique is sound.

All metal mode is extremely deep and even gives a probable target ID.

The GTI 2500 has 24 target notches which I found intimidating at first. Now I like that many. I normally run in Jewelry mode and dig everything size A B and C depending on the site. In trashy areas I go to coin mode. In super trashy areas I dig penny on up.

I traded up from an ACE 250 and had no trouble adapting to the higher end Garrett. What are you using now?

This forum is full of a lot of 2500 users who have been invaluable to me. I am extremely pleased with my GTI 2500.

FWIW, I have not found the larger imaging coil all that helpful to my detecting. I know Alan was using it in a dried up lake in GA to cover lots of ground more quickly and found some real great stuff with it. A guy (sorry the name escapes me) a while back found a Civil War Buckle with it. I find it too heavy for extended use. In all metal mode it goes very, very deep and my pal the plumber has used it to find water shutoffs buried in high grass from about 2 feet away. I also just purchased the 4.5 inch scorcher but have not messed with it too much. I have two or three extremely trashy sites I plan on trying it out on.

John summed it up pretty good. I can only add that I when I owned the GTI had some MAJOR problems with nails it did just love nails! especially the hand-smithed ones.:sadwalk:

When coin hunting I dug A,B,C to coin & Jewelry was the best for Sweden else I'd disc out some coins.
If you can get the 4.5" scorcher(name?) it really helps in trashy areas.
