I'm fairly new to the explorer, and I hear alot about using the cross hairs. My eyesight's so damn bad that I don't use the screen at all, but put the machine in iron mask and listen to the sounds. (I know that I missed alot with the white's by trusting the screen). Anyway, Am I missing something by not using the screen?, Do you think that the minelab will perform like a fisher,(where the sounds become second nature) Will the audio give me all the information that I need? (I'm hunting stricktly old sights)Thanks, John in N.J.

That it is a blessing in disguise for you.Sounds are the way to go.Screen for reference only. But like I said,That is my opinion.Good Luck,Ric

Hi John,
Thats what makes the explorer such a fantastic machine. The fact that you have so many options to work with . I go from smartfind to digital and always listen to sounds. The enlargement bottom is a great feature.
It took me alittle bit to get use to the explorer being it was my first detector but many times now ill stop on a dimes just through the sounds and will know its a good target.

I usually listen to the sound and reference it to where the cursor position is, not that I have found heaps like you guys in the states but here in Tasmania the tigers eater us poor detectorists. Nevertheless I have had a hell of a time searching and researching great places to go. LISTENING IS THE BEST LOOK FOR REFERENCE
