audio modification:ausflag:

i have a hearing problem.i have a 1983 silver sabre that has a audio frequency of 450hz. it helps me to define what i'm targeting, however,i also have a tesoro compadre that has audio frequency of 630hz when i use this all i hear ,bap, bap, bap.not high bap or a low bap.just bap.i still dig it.

what i was wondering about is there an inexpensive way to modify the audio responce on the more modern machines ?

i was thinking about a variable audio interface that maybe ,your earphones plug into, then plug into your detector and you can set the audio responce to suit yourself.

failing the above is there a set of earphones out there that has not only volume control,

bu t a self user audio adjust for clearer responces?

well carolina phil, you might just have pointed me in the right direction.kellyko sell them for around $39.00,but you can buy it off the internet for $19.00 post free.i've been researching you see! it's okay if you are american.they don't sell them in australia.it's called a koss eq 50.the change over from your currency to ours, plus freight, import duties and customs.kinda puts it out of reach. we'll see . blowfly

a mutual acquaintance of yours and mine, george meyers told me that you use rat phones.how good are they really?
i pulled up the rat phones site on the web and read all the rave reviews. made up or real,i don't know ,but it would be
a long way and expensive to buy something that didn't suit. i can't hear the high tones.anything above 450hz,
my silver sabre operates on this. all sounds above this tend to be rather mononotonous
,bah, bah, however i still dig it. i use killer bee's11on my vaquero and they sound okay but, when used on my
compadre,it sounds dull.the vaquero operates at 293hz or vco,the compadre operates at 630hz.
i'm slowly meeting all the detectorists in cairns, where do you hang your hat?i live in westcourt.i've never seen you on the
beach.

hh see ya blowfly

Had a look at the web-site, the RatPhones VTF no longer seems to be available. They do work well for persons with different hearing ability.
As to their availability, one can only wonder why there are hurdles to obtain something that works this well.
Perhaps check the Koss (UGA) Unity Gain Amplifier at Kellyco "sponser of this forum".

I would try using an ordinary small amp such as the ones used in computer speakers.Connect the amp between the detector and headphones as you normally would. Then connect a 100k potentiometer between the output of the amp and the input of the amp. When the detector sounds it will start a feedback oscillation in the amp,the frequency of the feedback oscillation should be variable to some degree with the 100k pot and the amp volume control and should be well above 600hz.

They have't been made it years, they didn't go over well.
They worked great with the White's MXT, Tesoro units that I had.

Hi blowfly mate that import you are talking about ,you only pay import duty if the item costs over $500.00 but they dont often bother,.terry in oz:ausflag:

hi terry, thanks for the info, but i may have to change to a tid machine to compensate for my failing hearing.only i hate screens.thanks anyway blowfly, see ya!

How well do you hear a Rubber Duckey? If good, you might check out the new Lobo detectors. They have a nawing quality. Just a thought.
