I got my CTX the other day and WOW what an upgrade from the exploder!
But ... shhhh don't tell those guys!
Anyway, I went to plug in my Grey Ghost headphones and noticed after I was using them with my detector, that I was next to some homeless lady and I
was disturbing her sleep. My audio was still on even though my headphones were plugged in. I tried to re plug them thinking that
they had slipped out because of the 90% jack, but they kept making sound. Since I am new to this detector, I tried about 10 mins to figure out how to turn off the sound, before I just gave up and used it the way it was.
I figured I could look it up in the manual later. Well.... that manual is a piece of junk. Talk about confusing.
So I went on-line and noticed a post about Grey Ghost Underwater Headphones and the CTX,
They also mentioned Koss. Normally I dont use the Koss headphones when they come with any new detector, because they are really hollow sounding.
That got me to thinking and I knew I had a reserve pair of headphones in my car that were the standard Koss headpones.
I turned on my machine and plugged them into the CTX, then ran a quarter over it. No outside audio could be heard, but I could hear it in the headphones.
Then I tried the Grey Ghost Headphones. I plugged them in and the audio was in the headphones as well as the outside speaker on the CTX.
I compared the two jacks on the two different headphones and they are literally the exact same length, size, equal no. of bands and identical in every way, except for the 90% turn on the GG headphones. So I guess the moral of the story right now is to either live with Koss phones or try a plug adaptor for the Grey Ghosts (havent tried this yet to see if it works or not). Basically, my Grey Ghost phones don't work with the CTX without external audio on all the time. Bummer
One other thing that Minelab needs to fix ASAP. The screen is not easily visible in the sunlight with Polarized glasses on. It has black areas that show up when looking through a polarized set of sunglasses. Not good for So. California since polarized sunglasses are required most of the year.
