ATX Finds Alaska Gold Nuggets

Here is a photo of three fat little gold nuggets I found recently in Alaska with the Garrett ATX and 8" mono coil. Total weight 4 grams.

Nice

Enjoy your trip Steve, nothing like going back to old stomping grounds.

Recently picked up the 8" coil, finally took her out and was very impressed with the sensitivity and depth.

Its a keeper for sure, hope others sitting on the sidelines holding out get one. Only hurting themselves, wish I would have ordered one earlier.

Congrats!

Old Calif.,

Could you elaborate on why you feel a 8" mono is worth having in addition to the 10x12DD. What are the advantages? What situations would dictate using the 8" mono instead of the standard 10x12. Basically, what sold you on making the recommendation to buy the small coil?

The 8" mono is actually a bit deeper with a broader signal on some deeper items. A must have for the ATX! While testing my 5.4 oz nugget...both the stock DD and 8" mono got it at 20" - the 8" mono was a stronger signal and broader from side to side.

Yay! Good job Steve!

Hello ANKen,

I'm more of a fresh water hunter so smaller coils wade through water allot easier, less drag so much easier on my arm.

Weight is another reason, after getting spoiled with the smaller DD coils was hard going back with the stock coil. Needed a true smaller waterproof coil and after reading
positive reviews from both Allan and Steve with the 8" coil new it was a winner.

The 8" mono coil is deep, nails the smallest finds and such a joy to swing. Will try and post a pic of small pieces from a recent lake hunt, no gold but the tiny pieces are very impressive the kind of finds a vlf detector will get in good ground.

Although lost the iron check feature with the 8" mono, went with audio digging only low conductive signal's. The ratio of trash was very low, extreamly low for a pi. Depth is amazing with the 8" mono for gold jewelry hunting mineralized ground, my AT-Gold in all metal operates great but lacks depth with the harsh wet sand and beach sand near the waters edge. Amazing what masking can do even to the best VLF, which is why one needs a good pi.

So glad to have the ATX, and now with the 8"mono its even more of a joy to use.

HH, Paul

Paul/Al,

Thanks for the feedback. Bought my ATX primarily for nugget hunting. Don't have many hours on it yet. I'll be sticking with the standard coil until I get more experience with the machine. I can see the small coil advantage in hunting tight spots. Not sure how the sensitively and depth compare with both coils over small nuggets.

Good hunting.
