atx discrimination vs sensibility

Hello friends, i come one more time:shrug: with a question for the pro of the atx unit

I prospected always with setting offring to me best sensibility, with discrimination 2+3, or 5+6 if nothing light in the top of the sand and 12/13 sensibility ;
so i make the test (no GB) with a little 5g ring at 12" , i had a sound but drifts around so maybe i could miss here when i walk...
i rerstart and put discri 0 , sensibility 10 and after 9....good sound , light sound but no drifts and noise around... just the little "hiiiiiii", at 9 sensibility the same...huge.

For the biggest ring up 10 g no problem discrimination 5+6 sensibility at 12 he take them, but the majority is down 10g...down 5 g...so i dont want miss one:super:
Usualy this kind of pocket have no little alluminium so no problem for digging.

So my question , prefre you detect with max sensibility and few discrimination, or no discrimination and sensibility down ?

Thanks, see you !

hi there

I have found that I tend to:

a) try not to ground balance - as it can alter the HI LO to LO HI in some cases, and I like to know the kind of conductor (low conductor = gold)
b) sens 9 or 10 - sometimes 11 if the ground is not giving too much noise
c) discrim 3 or 4

seems to work for me. In the surf you will need to ground balance I think. Discrim and ground balance both kill depth?

I have found the stock coil much deeper than the 8 inch mono. However, the 8 inch mono coil good for around rocks or crevices. Maybe 8 inch mono is good in the water....

went today and found approx 50 old coins, junk ring, silver ring, and a plated gold ring mostly with 8 inch mono as a test

I go with maximum sensitivity, zero disc. But this is in freshwater lakes. I have just a small amount of mineralization. If I go with less then maximum sensitivity, I miss some of those deep whispers.

On wet beach sand....

After about 4 months running without ground balance...I am now ground balancing and have a quieter machine which (I believe) allows me to hear the deeper signals better.

And also at the same type gives me a better feel/sense of what's under the coil.

Sensitivity I usually run 13 to 11...trying to get it as high as possible.

I've also been trying out Discrims of 2 to 3 but no opinion on that yet.

thans guy s , i hope this can hepl other owners !

Joe i will try again you wright when GB on its possible to put sensi up , discri down and quiete i see before.
I think its the same result like not GB, sensi 10 and discri 2+3

I speak for the beaches, with tides never hunt in the water , she go herserlf:biggrin: ! in the land i prefere my xp deus or ctx

With the discri 0 he can take little gold fragment, little rings with stone, and they are light so not so deep, maybe in this case it s possible to GB for having a quiet machine and hearing the little hi/low gold at 8"max more easy ?
For me 01 discri with sensi down give you the littlest sounds.....maybe if you put discri up 3 he cut the little signal...a 15 g ring can be at 18" and giving you a little "hiiiiii" if you put discri up 3 , sensibility 11, i think you loose this precious sound be sure.

Maybe first round sensibility up++ with discri, and second round sensibility down and 01 discri ?
it depend what we are looking for..

dMNZ your setting looks good something beetween the two solution i will try this ! GB+discri...maybe for the military :starwars: or big treasure not for rings and native gold no ?

Interesting the different settings we use. I'm usually in the water in hot ground. disc 3-5, sens anywhere from 6-9, and ground ballanced. I still find small deep targets, but can run quiet. If I raise sens, or lower disc, I get lots of small noise that I am fairly sure is nothing but minerals, but it does cause me to stop and check with further swinging before I decide to not dig and move on. Lots of wasted time.

With my current settings, when I go over a ring or other target, I know there is something to dig for. Maybe I'm missing alot, but seems like I find plenty of small targets (pull tabs, small iron, small bits of aluminum cans, junk earings) very deep. Hard to believe I'm passing over gold rings.
