ATX Coil Support Bracket....Just got them in...

Old California

New member
Picked up two sets of ATX Coil Support Brackets off ebay, Haven't tried them out in the field but based from what I'm seeing they are great!

Have some minor play but not enough to cause an issue, Snug enough for all day usage and professionally made too. Picked up two sets, One for the 8" coil the second for the stock DD. Now, My coils are were they're suppose to be can't wait to use them out in the field.

If anyone gets a set, Mount the sliding bracket off to the right side of coil same side as the tightening screw. The plastic tightening coil screw fills in open gap to the sliding bracket, This greatly reduces what little coil play remains.

Paid $30 bucks apiece plus shipping but well worth the price, You guys ands gals will not regret getting these.

Thanks for the write-up. They look very well made. Shame you have a $1000 worth of coils there and you still have to spend $60 to make them stable. Garrett should fix the problem or send out these brackets for free. Maybe they are waiting to send them out with the FREE cut out coil cover everyone is waiting on ? Don't take it wrong, I love my ATX, but I am struggling to cope with the overall quality and ergonomics of the machine.

Hello Shayne,

Overall the ATX is a winner, Sure it has it's hiccups and most new models do when they first come out. Knowing Garrett, They are aware and will mostly likely resolve most of these issues we just need to have patience and enjoy what we do have and believe me it's terrific stuff having an ATX with so much to offer at it's price range.

Recommend those having coil issues to spend the $30 bucks on the Coil support bracket, It's an investment and for those out there enjoying the ATX won't even think about the small cost.

I'm sold on the 8" mono coil, Perfect size and really balances out the ATX so in the coming months ahead the 8" mono will be my main water coil. Now out in ocean wet sand the stock DD will be the better choice, So now I'm set and the support coil brackets will make hunting even more of a joy.

All the best,
Paul (Ca)

Yes, right. It looks like ATX is better than SDC 2300 of Minelab... heavier but more universal and better for salt beach hunting.

I think I bought the last bracket support, just fyi. Hope they put more up for sale though. Also, wanted to mention the weight. I have actually swung both detectors and the SDC does feel lighter, although not by much (check out my topic on the weight comparisons on the two). One thing I did notice was that the SDC feels less durable. It may very well be indestructible, but just feels breakable. I did like how compact it is though and is nice to swing.

I feel the ATX with the 8" mono coil would be a fair compassion between the two, Weight wise the SDC will be slightly lighter than the ATX with an 8" mono coil but not by much.

Price wise no compassion, Hands down the ATX comes out way ahead. Performance wise, The ATX appears to be doing a good job across the board

Take care,

Thanks for sharing the videos Stephen,

Seen both, Excellent very well made!

One thing that grabbed my interest in the video was the ATX appeared to be quieter maintaining a much lower threshold, The SDC threshold appears too loud even at it's low setting?

Congrats on getting the Support bracket, And agree hopefully the fellow who sells them continues they do help.

Take care,
Paul

Hello Shelton,

Haven't seen the SDC up close, Just going from what I seen on an earlier video. Even then, Really shouldn't comment on the SDC until seeing one up close and trying one out myself.

Take care,

Thanks Paul. I really love this hobby!! And love sharing it with others who enjoy it as much as I do too.

Just FYI....

Looks like they have more brackets available now on eBay. I just got mine in the mail yesterday.

That's great Stephen! Hopefully others will purchase one they are a neat coil support, Kind of pricy but well worth the investment.

If you mount the bracket portion off to the right side of coil, The plastic tightening screw on the coil fills in some of the gap reducing what little play it has.

On another note, Going to make a different type of coil support should be a neat one with less drag in the water.

Take care,
Paul
