Attenuator cable?

Has anyone here ever used an attenuator cable on the old Whites analog Di machines. It's supposed to give the detector better performance in mineralized ground. It just looks like a small piece of cable that goes between the coil cable and the control box. Wondering if it actually does anything.

Yes, and yes.
It was also used for the first of the digital Eagles...before they incorporated the attenuation function into that front knob.

Didn't notice a huge difference, but could run with slightly more gain and had less noise in moderate to heavy mineralization.

It doesn't make up for the lack of depth caused by mineralization, though...just 'lessens the pain', so to speak.

:)
