attention experts tejon vs. xlt by whites:confused:

For the last 5 years I have tried about every detector on the market. I search old colonial home sites, most have no modern day trash. Do I consider myself a relic hunter? Not really. Old coins is what I like to find. I do like to find buttons along with bullets and military items, so I dig everything above a nickel. So it hit me- if I dig everything above a nickel I need only a beep and dig detector, The tejon fits the bill well. It has a language all it's own. It's about the deepest beep and dig detector, well constructed and light. And for working in iron the small coil is about as deep as the stock coil. If you are going to cherry pick parks and ball fields then you need a tid of some sort. I suggest the Xterra series for that type of hunting.

It all depends what you want to do with your detector. Neither shines on damp/wet sand. On pasture with a nice solid soil matrix the XLT will keep up with many more modern detectors if used in Relic mode and the discrimination adjusted down into the minus figures. You would also be more popular in your local park as you can take advantage of the "Signagraph" display to avoid digging to many holes. Due to the concentric coil target masking can be a real problem but it does aid in pinpointing.

The Tejon gives more depth with less effort but you will be digging more unwanted targets. Far better than the Whites on plough/light/fluffy soil.

Both good machines. For relics/coins I would go for the Tesoro, general coinshooting, the XLT.
