Attention E-Trac/Android users! new app available!

Well there is finally an Android App for the Minelab E-Trac.
https://market.android.com/details?id=program.minelab

Now that's a pretty cool app....but does it keep track of stats? lol...I like it!!!

Yes it keeps track of finds and plots them on a map...

I would think someone that is marketing it has everyones info on their finds and spots.
down to a gps co ordinate.

I have tried it for a few finds and am not thrilled about it. It is a great idea but until stats can be pulled from the recorded data its just a glorified gps referenced gallery with notes on the pictures. There are other gps linked photo programs that do the same thing. If you could input time spent at an area and mark off areas that you have detected I would find it very usefull. Still kind of fun to use. It doesnt seem to let me edit the data once I save it initially. Im sure once the bugs are out it will be better. Idigid

This application has access to the following:

Your location
fine (GPS) location
Access fine location sources such as the Global Positioning System on the device, where available. Malicious applications can use this to determine where you are, and may consume additional battery power.
mock location sources for testing
Create mock location sources for testing. Malicious applications can use this to override the location and/or status returned by real location sources such as GPS or Network providers.
coarse (network-based) location
Access coarse location sources such as the cellular network database to determine an approximate device location, where available. Malicious applications can use this to determine approximately where you are.

Network communication
full Internet access
Allows an application to create network sockets.

Storage
modify/delete USB storage contents modify/delete SD card contents
Allows an application to write to the USB storage. Allows an application to write to the SD card.

No thanks...besides, would it be the same as a mushroom hunter or fisherman telling the whole world where the hot spots are at??

man didn't realize that.. thanks for the heads up.. just the thought of minelab and android together was a cool concept...

you're welcome Gonehunting...

I fear the cel phone interferes with the finely tuned E-Trac electronics. Anyone else? I'm still gonna check it out even though the internetz may steal my treasure spots.

Same here...i hear some slight feedback if the coil gets too close to the Droid...but only when i'm kneeling on the ground while digging up the targets..hmmm. not sure what's going on.

The phone always gets left behind. I did download a GPS app and excitedly thought to take and also photograph with phone...Then got depressed cause I had to leave it behind.

Hello - I WROTE the APP!

The app (in Android) has to state that GPS and mapping is in use and GPRS ports are open to gain an accurate GPS location - under NO CIRCUMSTANCES am I using this app to record other peoples finds spots or locations - this would be very wrong and inapproriate.

The app ONLY records finds on YOUR phone and will email the info you record to whoever you want in the email section - but that's it. - NO LOG and NO GPS records are sent anywhere else, this is Private to you.

regards
Martin Gilchrist

haha denial is the first....

Seriously, besides trying to comfort the tin foil types, what about me? Can you soothe my cel phone fear? I really want to use your app while detecting my treasure spots. I've already downloaded and taken a brief look...really really want to use...but I have determined cel phones confuse the little Merlin in my E-Trac.

I need something convincing using CAPS, like above.

all I can say is - turn the phone on only when you want to log the find, it's saved on your phone, then turn it off again (completely off) so it does not interfere with your machine - that's what I do. :)

DrBob hunts with his Iphone powered on also and I have never known him to have any issues either.I have had a couple of other top end machines that would pick up interference from cell phones in the past but they also were bad to pick up emi from about every other source imaginable as well :)

Problem solved,,,,

Many THANKS. Sometimes the answer is staring you in the face...I have rationalized "airplane mode" was safe enough not to interfere with new high technology wireless controls as a passenger...however "airplane mode" was too suspect whilst detecting.

I have re-read the statement above and it makes sense...maybe ... crashing plane fear<<<missing treasure signal fear

I downloaded the app for my new android phone. I'm going out today as its supposed to get up into the low 50's. I'll let you know how it works, but I don't expect it to hamper anything, as many hunters use their phones as their camcorders. I've never turned my phone off before and its never been an issue, but we'll see with this new 4G phone.
