attempted to hunt frozen ground again

my son is itching bad to get out, so we tried a woods behind a small park, it has trails thru it where people walk, jog, etc......anyhow even after pushing back snow, and lots of leaves the ground was rock hard.

The thing I still cannot understand is my ace kept telling me the target was a penny or a dime and it was always beer caps.

I found one lonely lincoln today, so I wasn't skunked. My son told me he didn't care he was just happy to spend time with his dad. That made my day!

Yeah.. used to live in upstate new york, where 9 months out of the year i needed to carry a pick axe. Kids love treasure hunting though... none of my own but I can't go to a public park without a line of kids following me around like I'm the metal detecting pied piper!

I agree with you Goes4ever. I just got into MD'ing in the fall so I havent had much time to hunt either. My daughter really wants to get out, but the ground might as well be concrete. If I remember right from one of your previous posts, your south of me about 15-30 miles. Im in Millcreek PA near Presque Isle State park. I believe it was you that was near me, but sometimes my brain comes up with stuff on its own so maybe not!

Im still trying to find local good spots to hunt for this spring. So far I havent found any spots that got me too excited. I have tried some parks and of course the beach at the State park. Found some clad but nothing old. I would rather find one old penny or an old relic of some sort over $5.00 in current clad. Not that I dont appreciate $, but Im not into it for the money. I like old stuff.

Anyway, think spring!

Luckily for me, there are different terrains to detect in my are . If the ground gets frozen, I can still head for the Pines. The Piney soil is very sandy and is not susceptible to freezing. I love January & February detecting. I am rarely interrupted by curious bystanders like I am in the Spring, Summer and Fall.
