ATPro Issue

This weekend I had something occur to my ATP that I had never noticed before. I normally hunt in Pro Zero but since we were looking for coins I tried Pro Coin mode. The issue was that I had quite a hard time getting it to calm down. Even after adjusting the sens, ground balancing etc the detector would still produce a lot of noise in the low ranges anytime I swung the coil. When I held it still, the noise would quite down. There was quite a lot of junk in the ground but I don't know if that explains it. When I tried Pro Zero mode, the issue went away. Of course I did get a fair amount of hits in the iron zone that is discriminated out in Coin mode.

Has anyone else noticed this? Is this a problem that needs addressed or is it normal operation?

I posted this on another forum but didn't get much feedback so I decided to try here. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Since it seems to work in the Pro Zero mode, not sure what to suggest. However, do make sure your coil connection is tightened nice and snug. If not, it will be erratic. HH jim tn

That's the way I see it too. As long as it doesn't affect real targets I don't guess it is a problem other than the annoyance factor. I spoke to Garret about it today and they did not have any other suggestions either. I will try it in a different location (my yard) this afternoon and see if it goes away and if not I'll try my 8.5 X 11 coil.

If all else fails, I guess I will just go back to Pro Zero and ignore the iron signals.

Been thinking about this too...cant help with an honest answer, If it works in ProZero, it should work in fine in ProCoin, meaning it cant be a coil, connection, or mfg defect right?...but your post does beg the question, does anybody out there hunt in anything other than ProZero? Is there somebody that hunts in ProCoin or any other setting we should know about and if it adds to magnifying the finds or the hunting experience? For instance, If a guy was using the Pro for nothing but cladstabbing coins, what settings do they use? ProZero, or ProCoins

The only benefit to Pro Coin mode I can see is that iron is automatically discriminated (preset to 35) out and there are a few notches already set to block out some pull tabs etc. Other than that, I don't see much of a difference.

Hmmm...I dont know if that would be a benefit or not.....I run ProZero, 40 disc with iron off most of the time....I guess I could just drop disc to 35 and call it a day then?
Well, you gotta hand it to those poor souls in the circuit design dept...they really tried to make a product that has so many features, somebody sooner or later would figure them all out eventually...

If I ever try dirt coin shooting with this thing, I'll give it a go and report back, up until now Its my water hunter.

I usually run in Pro Zero mode with no discrimination so I hear everything. I just ignore the ones I don't want to dig. If you are running 40 disc in Pro Zero mode then the only other thing to do is notch out a couple of places. Then you have the same as Pro Coin. It is just quicker to hit Pro Coin than change settings on Pro Zero. At least that is all I can tell about the two.

You gave me another test to run if the problem is till there. Just start with Pro Zero or Pro Custom and duplicate the settings of coin mode and see if anything changes.

Well I tried it in my yard tonight and it worked fine so I guess it was just the area we were in. Sure was a lot of trash there. I was surprised as we hunted at several different sites.

Not only did it work but in just a few minutes I found 2 clad dimes, 1 wheatie, 1 penny and 1 nickel. And that was an area that I had already hunted. This time the ground was damp and the signals seemed to be better.
